New Punjabi movie for 2020 titled Main Viyah Nahi Karona Tere Naal starring Gurnam Bhullar has been announced today. Interestingly, Gurnam Bhullar will also be producing this film!
These days it is a trend to make the announcement of a movie months and sometimes years before its release. Punjabi cinema is no different. Now Gurnam Bhullar, a talented and popular Punjabi singer and actor has announced his first production venture, a Punjabi movie titled Main Viyah Nahi Karona Tere Naal.
Gurnam Bhullar had made his acting debut this year only. He starred in a film called Guddiyan Patole, which was a female-driven film and so understandably, it was a bit challenging for Gurnam Bhullar, as a newcomer to make his mark in it. Yet, even opposite a seasoned actress like Sonam Bajwa, Gurnam was able to make quite a good impression.
Few months later, in August 2019, Gurnam Bhullar acted opposite another top heroine – Sargun Mehta – in a film called Surkhi Bindi, which managed to do average business at the box-office.
Now while several of his movies (as an actor) are on floor or pre-announced, Gurnam Bhullar has made no delay in announcing his production venture also. The name of his production house is called Diamond Star Worldwide Movies.

The movie name ‘Main Viyah Nahi Karona Tere Naal’ of a Punjabi movie automatically gives a suggestion of it being a wedding comedy. Let’s see whether the formula of wedding comedies which quite rocked in 2018/2019 will work in 2020 as well or not.
Earlier in the year 2019, Ammy Virk had made an announcement via his Instagram account that the work on Qismat 2 – the sequel of his highly successful movie with Sargun Mehta has begun. However, now there’s a bittersweet piece of news for the fans of Qismat – that had broken all records in Punjabi cinema in 2018.
While it’s common in Punjabi cinema to hear about the change of release dates of various movies, but it’s a little uncommon to see the producers changing the titles of their films especially when it comes to sequels.
The name of the a superhit film generally helps a lot in adding the ‘brand value’ to it and a lot of filmmakers achieve success by using this brand name even though sometimes, the movie has no meat in it except the big brand name. Take for example, a franchise like Dabangg or in our very own Punjab, Jatt and Juliet, Sardaarji or Carry on Jatt series. Even if the sequels are not as good in their content value as their Original versions, the movie still ends up recovering its cost owing to its brand value.
Anyways, one such movie that almost became a ‘Brand’ in Punjabi cinema last year was Qismat starring Sargun Mehta and Ammy Virk. The movie was loved by both critics and masses alike and emerged as the highest grosser in Punjabi cinema at that time i.e. 2018. The ‘jodi’ of Sargun and Ammy received equal appreciation from all corners and even Tania, another actress of the movie, bagged many good offers after Qismat’s success.
Earlier in this year, Ammy Virk and Jagdeep Sidhu, the director of Qismat had announced that they had begun work on Qismat 2. Even Sargun Mehta hinted on the same. But today an announcement by both the lead male actor and the captain of the ship on their respective Instagram profiles, has confused the audience quite a bit.
While sharing a picture, Ammy Virk wrote, “Qismat, Sufna ton baad Lekh’ and mentioned the release date of the latter as 18th September 2020, which is the same date, when the actor-director duo had announced the release of Qismat 2. Not only this, both Ammy and Jagdeep tagged Sargun Mehta in this post.
So considering the above information, it is almost clear that Qismat 2 will not happen. In fact, instead of using Qismat brand name, the team has decided to give a new name to the film in this series.
Lekh will release on 18th September 2020.
Also, perhaps they are projecting ‘Sufna’ also a part of this series.
Sufna, a film releasing on Valentine’s Day i..e. 14th February 2020 stars Ammy Virk and another Qismat girl, Tania in the lead roles. This film is also being directed by Jagdeep Sidhu.
However, the producers of Sufna are not same as Qismat’s. While Qismat was produced by Shri Narottam Ji Productions, Sufna is bankrolled by Panj Paani Films.
Now we wonder who will be producing ‘Lekh’? Will it be Sh Narottam Ji Productions or Panj Paani Films or Ammy Virk’s own production house or some other producer?
This is something that we’ll have to wait a bit for as even Ammy didn’t reveal this part of the film in his today’s post.

Sonam complimented Deepika in her image caption and said that she just couldn’t stop admiring the latter’s beauty.
Here we would like to inform our readers that the reason the two beauties from Bollywood and Pollywood came together was due to Deepika Padukone’s promotional interview for her film Chhapaak. This interview show will be telecast on the night of PTC channel on 2nd January 2020.
Chhapaak is a film that Deepika Padukone recently said is “very close to her heart’. While releasing the trailer in front of media, Deepika had even broken down. She was also quoted as saying that there were a few scenes of the film that she felt really uncomfortable and stifling performing in front of the camera.
Chhapaak will release on 10th January 2020.
On the other hand, Sonam Bajwa is also busy these days in the promotion of her first fully romantic film called ‘Jinde Meriye’ in which she is playing the role of ‘Rehmat’ opposite her Singham co-star – Parmish Verma. Jinde Meriye’s trailer is already out. The film will hit the theatres on 24th January. It is directed and produced by Pankaj Batra, the man behind films like Bambukat and Sajjan Singh Rangroot.
It is not uncommon to see Bollywood stars coming to give interviews to regional film stars during their film promotions. Aamir Khan was the first one to give interview to ‘Gippy Grewal’ while promoting his film Dhoom 3. Then Shahrukh Khan, Varun Dhawan and Kriti Sanon also gave interviews to Diljit Dosanjh in December 2015 during one of their film promotions.
No doubt, this kind of promotional activity benefits not just the Bollywood stars but also the regional stars in gaining nationwide popularity. Even the fans of regional stars feel utterly delighted to watch their idols getting so much attention and importance from big Bollywood stars. Isn’t it a win-win situation for all parties concerned?
So will you be watching Chhapaak and Jinde Meriye too? Let the chilling winter not be a deterrent – get out of your quilts and enjoy the new face of Indian cinema!

On one hand in 2019, we had Punjabi movies that were as great as Ardaas Karaan or Shadaa, on the other hand, we had as usual some movies that tanked at the box-office Big time and some of them, even though were made well yet left without a trace at the BO.

Now according to a data provided by one of the most well-trusted social media pages on Punjabi cinema Box-office reports, here’s the list of Punjabi movies that can be considered disasters, flops or below average from financial viewpoint.
The year 2019 has proved to be a little better in terms of business for Punjabi movie industry. While on one hand we had a super-successful film in commercial cinema category as Diljit Dosanjh and Neeru Bajwa’s ‘Shadaa’, another blockbuster surprisingly turned out to be Ardaas Karaan (a non-commercial movie) written, directed and produced by Gippy Grewal.

In between, Binnu Dhillon and Sargun Mehta gave a superb comedy called ‘Kala Shah Kala’ which saw some powerful performances by both actors who turned producers for this film.
How can we also forget Tarsem Jassar’s Uda Aida which was again a very different film from the ordinary run-of-the-mill stories and ended up churning a lot of moolah at the box-office as well.
According to a data compiled by Punjabi Cinema – Box Office, some 13 films out of a total of 60 turned out to be “successful” from financial viewpoint. So here we go:
List of Hit, Super-Hit and Semi-Hit Punjabi Movies of 2019 (Gross, worldwide estimated)
Earlier in August, Parmish Verma and Sonam Bajwa announced their first romantic movie together called Jinde Meriye which is all set to release on 24th January 2020.
Earlier in August, Parmish Verma and Sonam Bajwa announced their first romantic movie together called Jinde Meriye which is all set to release on 24th January 2020.
At that time, Parmish Verma took down to his knees and offered a flower to Sonam Bajwa. People were wondering what exactly is cooking between the two of them and just the next day it was revealed that both will be working together once again after their action flick – Singham.
So, this is the story of Jinde Meriye movie announcement, one of the most anticipated Punjabi movies of 2020. Though the posters of the movie showing Parmish Verma and Sonam Bajwa in utter romantic poses had already fetched the audience’s attention, now that Jinde Meriye’s trailer is out, the audiences’ expectations have increased manifold from the film.
While Sonam Bajwa is looking absolutely gorgeous in all her outfits and donning another beautiful character of Rehmat, Parmish is equally complementing her as far as his dashing looks are concerned.
However, Parmsh Verma still needs to work on his poker-face and lackadaisical dialogue delivery that doesn’t impress much. While he was criticized quite badly for his outing in Singham as an actor, we just hope that Parmish would be able to make at least some better impression with Jinde Meriye – touted to be a light-hearted romantic flick.
Directed by Pankaj Batra, this Punjabi movie Jinde Meriye has all the potential to emerge as a decent film in the beginning of the New Year. Whether it would send cash registers ringing at the box-office is something that we have to wait and watch, as nothing new seems to be taking place as far as the basic plot of the movie is concerned.

Zakhmi is a Dev Kharoud’s first Punjabi movie to be released in 2020. The film’s trailer is already out. Here’s our review:
One look at Zakhmi’s teaser and we are immediately awe-struck. Though one is expected to feel thrilled when it comes to watching anything related to a usual Dev Kharoud movie, be it a teaser or trailer or a dialogue promo, yet Zakhmi’s teaser marks a strong statement right away!
From the teaser, Zakhmi seems to be a story of a family man who is determined to protect his family at any cost. Played by Dev Kharoud, this man has a wife (played by Aanchal Singh) and a daughter, who he can go at any length to protect from the social evils.
Release Date of Zakhmi is 7th February 2020.
While more details about the story of Zakhmi would be out when its trailer is released. However, this Inderpal Singh directorial has certainly made a good impression on the audiences’ minds with just its teaser, so far.
The look and expressions of both Dev Kharoud and Aanchal Singh are apt and match to the subject of the movie. Praise is equally being showered by fans on the child artiste of Zakhmi.
As far as Dev Kharoud’s other movie projects are concerned, he’ll be seen in the most awaited sequel of Daakuan Da Munda in 2020 along with a movie named Daler. On the other hand, the producer of Zakhmi, Binnu Dhillon would be appearing as an actor in couple of Punjabi movies like Golgappe, Welcome Bua ji, Jagga and more.
One of the highlights of Zakhmi is that model Aanchal Singh is making her Punajbi movie debut with Zakhmi. Her updates on her social media accounts about Zakhmi are quite interesting which shows that she’s certainly having a lot of fun doing Zakhmi.
Apart from that the rich content dealing with social issues, is what can help Zakhmi stand out from the rest of Punjabi movies.
As far as production credits of Zakhmi are concerned, it is being jointly produced by Binnu Dhillon and Ashu Munish Sahni from Omjee Star Studios. Punjabi movie Zakhmi is directed by Inderpal Singh.

But do you know who is the Direction of Photography of Street Dancer 3D? Punjab’s very own National-Award-winning Director, Vijay Kumar Arora who has given iconic films to both Punjabi and Hindi film industry as a director and DOP.
While he bagged the national award for Harjeeta last year, Vijay Kumar Arora has donned the DOP’s hat quite a number of times for Hindi Cinema. ABCD, Action Jackson, Flying Jatt and many more, Arora is known for his phenomenal work as a Director of Photography.
In Punjabi cinema, besides the iconic film Harjeeta, Arora has also given a blockbuster hit in the form of Guddiyan Patole that starred Sonam Bajwa, Tania and Gurnam Bhullar in the lead.
Guddiyan Patole was a unique film which got extremely appreciated due to the powerful female characters of the movie. Besides Sonam Bajwa and Tania, veteran actress Nirmal Rishi also played a memorable role in the movie.
On the other hand, Harjeeta was based on the real-life story of an Indian hockey player – Harjit Singh. This role was played by Ammy Virk, who had undergone physical transformation to fit into the character’s demand.
Vijay Kumar Arora had also directed a critically-acclaimed movie RSVP in 2013 which starred Harish Verma and Neeru Bajwa as a lead pair. The film was a comedy with a powerful story backing it up.

Named Jabarjan Singh, who hails from Bathinda spoke to media persons and called the CAA as the “black piece of law.” He was quoted as saying to The Quint as, “The government should not have even given an opportunity for this protest. It shouldn’t have passed this black piece of law. Students have left their studies and come out to protest.”
He also slammed the police personnel for their heavy-handed behaviour against the protesting students, like it was “no big deal for them.”
“They (police) are people who can even kill people randomly. It’s no big deal for them,” he said.
Calling the CAA “wrong and unfair,” the man, who fed hundreds of students at the protest, said, “The law should have accommodated those persecuted irrespective of religion. It shouldn’t have discriminated on the basis of religion at all.”

Jasmine Sandlas, an American-Punjabi singer, who made herself a big name in both Punjabi and Hindi music industry with Salman Khan’s film Kick’s hit song – Mujhe Yaar Na Mila – is in news for her “hair” again.
Jasmine Sandlas had made it to the headlines with her super-hit song – Mujhe Yaar Na Mila from Salman Khan’s Kick in 2014 and since then there’s been no looking back for her. The Punjabi singer who lives in San Francisco, has doled out many more Punjabi hits after that and always manages to remain constantly in the headlines because of some reason or the other.
Besides her relationship with Garry Sandhu followed by a Breakup, Jasmine has often hogged the limelight due to her “Hair” colors and does. She was called “Gulabi Queen” – her popular nickname in the industry for her magenta (glulaabi) hair. At one point, the singer was also a proud owner of long tresses but all of a sudden, she shocked her fans when on one woman’s day, she chopped her hair down to absolute boy-cut.
Now Jasmine Sandlas has once again managed to fetch both media and her fans’ attention by going ultra-light-pink with her hair color at the same time spotting a short bob cut with bangs.
Indeed, the pink color along with the bangs have added that much-needed ‘feminine touch’ to the otherwise bold and masculine look to the lovely face of Jasmine Sandlas. She looks like that strong and bold 21st century diva who’s not afraid to live life according to how she wants!
