punjabi-movies-songs-iampunjaabi-laung-laachi2It may be noted that Laung Laachi’s title song sung by Mannat Noor and featuring Neeru Bajwa and Ammy Virk is the first Indian song to have crossed 1 Billion mark on Youtube.

Today when the team of Villagers Films Studio announced the sequel of Laung Laachi, the audience has certainly got curious and excited! One point of curiosity is that who is going to feature in this film? Will it once again bring the jodi of Neeru Bajwa and Amberdeep on-screen or will there be a new starcast this time?

Release Date of Laung Laachi is March 2021, as of now.

One thing that’s confirmed for now is the name of the captain of the ship – Amberdeep! Yes, Amberdeep Singh will once again don the hat of the director of Laung Laachi. He will also be writing the story of the film.

We hope that like the Original, the makers will be able to retain Neeru Bajwa as the female lead in the sequel also.

Jinde Meriye, directed by and produced by Pankaj Batra, starring Sonam Bajwa and Parmish Verma released on 24th Jan. Whether the magic of Sonam and Parmish’s chemistry works this time or not, let’s find out!

Synopsis and Plot Summary of Jinde Meriye

Yaadi (Parmish Verma) is a jovial guy and Rehmat (Sonam Bajwa) is a sensible girl. Both are childhood friends who turned fall in love and want to get married, but Rehmat`s family is against the decision as Yaadi carries a careless attitude towards his future. To get Rehmat, Yaadi must stand on his own and have a prosperous career. However, Yaadi chooses an illegal way to be successful, which infuriates Rehmat, making her leave Yaadi forever. Will Yaadi be able to win Rehmat back?

Review:

Jinde Meriye can best be described as a pretty average movie that tries to do many things at the same time. This is of course one romantic film wherein the female lead completely overshadows the male lead.

In front of the seasoned and very talented actress Sonam Bajwa, Parmish Verma seems to be clearly struggling, which is primarily the reason that despite a decent story and direction, the film comes out pretty flat on the big screen.

One of the best things that works in Jinde Meriye’s favour is its music. Almost all the songs are good and align perfectly with the theme of the movie.

However, one really wonders what has gone wrong with Pankaj Batra’s direction now. The one who gave us iconic films like Bambukat and Sajjan Singh Rangroot, seems to be not really in the form ever since he took up production.

Be it High End Yaarian or Jinde Meriye, none of his films have impressed in the recent past.

Although Parmish has clearly improved from his Singham blunder, but the singer has a long way to go to still to becoming a complete actor.

Our rating: 2.5/5

Lekh: Sargun Mehta and Ammy Virk’s Punjabi Movie Is Actually Qismat 2?

Punjabi movie Lekh starring Sargun Mehta and Ammy Virk is just another one added to the list of Punjabi movies releasing in 2020. The rumour has it that Lekh was originally Qismat’s sequel only but due to some reasons the idea of a Qismat 2 got canceled.

If reports are to be believed that then the producers of Qismat which released in 2018 and was a huge box-office success, haven’t agreed to go for Qismat 2. Hence, Ammy Virk, Sargun Mehta and the director Jagdeep Sidhu have decided to go for an entirely new name for this Punjabi movie.

Hence Lekh’s idea was born.

Punjabi Movie Lekh will release on the same date as Qismat 2 was announced – 18th September 2020.

Another piece of news is that Ammy Virk has included even his Valentine’s release -Sufna (releasing on 14th February 2020) as the part of Qismat series only.

In social media posts announcing ‘Lekh’, both actor Ammy Virk and director Jagdeep Sidhu mentioned that after Qismat and Sufna, Lekh is going to be next in the series.

However, we’re still not sure how can Ammy Virk and Jagdeep Sidhu call Sufna, a part of Qismat series because Qismat and Sufna are produced by two completely different production houses.

While Qismat was produced by Shri Narottam Ji Films, Sufna is being produced by Panj Paani Films. Now we’ll have to wait and watch – who will actually produce ‘Lekh’ because this Punjabi movie starring Ammy Virk and Sargun Mehta is though releasing on the same date as Qismat, yet who’s going to bankroll this project, hasn’t been announced as yet.

All we can hope right now is that ‘Lekh’, if indeed, it is the sequel of Qismat, then it turns out to be a success just like the original. Audience would surely like to get more updates on Lekh, a Punjabi movie,  that’s created curiosity with just its one title poster!

1. ARDAAS KARAAN

Directed and produced by Gippy Grewal ‘Ardaas Karaan’ is a masterpiece made this year that’s mini book on life lessons itself. 2. UDA AIDA

Dealing with a social issue in a light-hearted manner, was Tarsem Jassar and Neeru Bajwa starrer Uda Aida that took on the obsession of our society on English language. Written by Naresh Kathooria and directed by Kshhitij Chaudhary, Uda Aida made a convincing point that speaking English might be necessary in today’s times but it doesn’t mean one should hate one’s native tongue. The film was especially loved for its child artistes’ remarkable performances.

Out of 56 Punjabi Movies Released This Year, 42 Flopped – Another Yearly Punjabi Cinema Analysis

The year 2019 has proved to be a little better in terms of business for Punjabi movie industry. While on one hand we had a super-successful film in commercial cinema category as Diljit Dosanjh and Neeru Bajwa’s ‘Shadaa’, another blockbuster turned out to be Muklawa – superb period film. Another surprise was Ardaas Karaan (a non-commercial movie) written, directed and produced by Gippy Grewal.

According to Mr Pramod Thakur of Whitehill Studios, in 2019 Punjabi cinema box office has declared that out of 56 films released only 14 movies were hits and semi hits (which means, they recovered their cost and could stay in theatres.) while 42 were flops.

Comparing this data with 2018, Punjabi cinema had given only 8 hits or semi-hits out 46 films released that year while in 2017, out of 37 Punjabi movies released, only 8 movies were hits or semi hits while 29 were declared flop.

So, if we talk about the hit vs flop ratio, 2019 clearly stands out better in comparison to last two years which means, Punjabi movie industry is certainly on an upswing.

Punjabi film pundits are speculating that there will be overall increase in 2020’s business. As compared to 2018 and 2019, wherein the annual turnover of Punjabi film industry as a whole was Rs 154 Crore and Rs 176 Crore respectively, in 2020 the business is likely to touch the Rs 200 Crore mark!
