Exclusive Interview with Ajay Sarkaria: Making His Debut With ‘Ardab Mutiyaran’

Ajay Sarkaria, owner of swashbuckling looks and acting talent which is honed by the Lee Starsberg Theatre and Film institute (New York), is all set to become the next big thing in Punjabi cinema. With a strong belief that there’s a huge scope for non-singer actors too to make their mark in the industry, Ajay is all set to break the stereotypes with his first film, Ardab Mutiyaran.

Making his debut with upcoming Punjabi movie ‘Ardab Mutiyaran’, along with none other than the likes of Sonam Bajwa and Ninja, Ajay has been garnering praises ever since the movie’s trailer was released.

Born in Amritsar and brought up in Chandigarh, the young actor says that he’s been fond of acting since his childhood days. “Right after doing my law (as my parents wanted it), I enrolled myself in an acting training academy in New York which helped me understand the nuances of the profession. I am glad that I took that step, which finally landed me in Mumbai and fetched some quality work experience too,” reminisces Ajay, who was a part of famous TV series 24 (season 2), Ek Sringar Swaabhimaan on Colors and also a few TV commercials.

On being paired with Sonam Bajwa, Ajay says, “Of course, I had some particular notions about working with her initially. However, I was startled at the amount of cooperation I received from her. She was very adjusting and made me feel very comfortable on the sets.”

Produced by industry’s top production house, Whitehill Studios, Ardab Mutiyaran releases on 18^th October. The film is being touted as a comic caper weaved around the theme of ‘girl-power’. So how much did Ajay get a chance to make his mark in the film?

“The film is so beautifully written that every character of the movie is equally important. Getting a chance to make my debut through White Hill Studios’ film is indeed a blessing.”

He adds, “I play a guy named Rinku Bansal, who is a very calm and loving boy who has to go through a lot of trouble before getting hitched.”

While signing off, he remarks, “Ardab Mutiyaran is a full-on family comedy with a focus on feminine power. It’s a film that everyone must watch.”

While the teaser of Ardab Mutiyaran’s latest song, Jatti Jeone Morh Wargi is out, the song is all set to release on September 30. Now just before its release, Sonam has shared a cool picture of hers along with none other than the singer of the song, Sidhu Moosewala.

Oozing oodles of ‘attitude’, the duo look amazing. While Sonam is adorning distressed denim like never before paired with high heel boots, Moosewala is looking in a casual sweatshirt and a pair of jeans.

Further, marking the introduction of Sonam Bajwa as Babbu Bains in the movie, it is the first song from the film’s soundtrack that will be reaching the audience. Burning Issue: Is Gurdas Maan right in using BAD words to his detractors?

All of us have our favorite celebrities, some of whom we even idolize or at least consider our role models in some ways. These are the celebrities we look up to with lots of respect and admiration. In Punjab, if there’s one celebrity who almost everyone is not just a fan of, but literally “worships” is none other than ‘Gurdas Maan’ often called as “Baba Gurdas Maan’ or ‘Maan Sahib’ with respect.

Perhaps the kind of work that Maan Sahib has done for Punjabi entertainment industry, there isn’t anyone who has till date matched him. Even though he belongs to the music industry, never has his work received negative feedback when it comes to either his songs’ lyrics or even indirect connotations.

Using chaste Punjabi words, the lyrics of his songs expressed through his mellifluous voice have received so much praise the world over, that Gurdas Maan is often requested to share his opinions on the beautiful language of Punjabi and Punjabiyat by even international media.

However, one of his statements recently, has given birth to a big controversy that doesn’t seem to cool down in the near future.

On being asked, about his take on ‘one nation, one language’ theory, Gurdas Maan was quoted as saying that there was no harm in having Hindi as one common language in the entire country. He said: “When we listen to Hindi music, watch films and read Hindi literature, then there is nothing wrong in accepting Hindi.” He called Punjabi the mother and Hindi the maasi.

However, his statement didn’t go down well with a couple of Sikhs who held placards during his live show at Abbotsford BC Canada.

But the biggest shock came, when Maan responded with some expletives in front of the live audience.

In no time, his words led to a social media storm and people are showing varied opinions on his act.

While K.S. Makhan has openly supported Gurdas Maan (through his Facebook Live video), Gurpreet Ghuggi said in a BBC interview, that Maan should’ve considered his stature before uttering such words. “Maan Saheb is known for his selection of words and strong command over Punjabi language. Such words coming from his mouth are naturally not easy to digest by general public and their anger is justified.”

However, let’s face it – celebrities are human beings just like the rest of us. They have their good moments and their bad moments too. Sometimes, they also may have moments of deep frustration at other people’s inability to understand what they actually are trying to say.

Perhaps, what happened at Abbotsford’s live show was one such moment where Maan couldn’t control letting off the steam to the extreme and ended up swearing!

But of course, considering his stature and the love that he receives from Punjabis the world over, it’s certainly not cool at all for him to use such words.

We think he must issue a statement soon apologizing for using wrong words publicly. Of course, he is well within his rights to express his thoughts on ‘One nation, one theory’ in any which way he likes.

Galwakdi: New Punjabi Film Announced Starring Wamiqa and Tarsem

Here’s another Punjabi film announced today starring a fresh pairing of Tarsem Jassar and Wamiqa Gabbi. The film is titled Galwakdi and its shooting has begun yesterday in Punjab.

‘Galwakdi’ is presented under Vehli Janta Films and Omjee Star Studios in association with Sarin Productions UK. The film is helmed by ‘Rab Da Radio 2’ fame director, Sharan Art.

Omjee Groups took down to Instagram to announce the commencement of the film. The post was captioned as: “Blessed to be part of #GALWAKDI strg. the dynamic team of Tarsem Jassar, Wamiqa Gabbi, BN Sharma and Raghvir Boli.

Doorbeen Movie: Looking to create ripples of change in our industry

Ninja and Wamiqa Gabbi starring upcoming Punjabi movie, Doorbeen promises to contribute towards making Punjab a better place to live in!

The Punjabi film industry has witnessed a rapid upsurge in content-based movies since the last few years and upcoming Punjabi movie, Doorbeen is all set to contribute towards the same with the perfect blend of giving a social message, comedy, romance, drama, and thrill.

Produced by Sukhraj Randhawa, Jugraj Bal and Yadwinder Virk, Doorbeen stars singer-turned-actor Ninja and Wamiqa Gabbi in the lead roles.

Gabbi who was recently seen in the Punjabi movie Nikka Zaildar 3 parallel to Ammy Virk extended her excitement to be a part of this film and complimented its unique storyline.

Directed by Ishan Chopra and written by Sukhraj Singh, Doorbeen narrates the tale of the rampant smuggling of alcohol which tends to take a toll on the youth. In order to curb this menace, a DSP takes the plunge and appoints an undercover agent to uncover the source. The agent who is enacted by singer-turned-actor Ninja, comes across insurmountable challenges while on his mission and the story further unfolds.

“I play the role of a guy who is quite emotional but very brainy at the same time. He is the mastermind of sending messages through unusual ways in the trade of smuggling,” shared Ninja.

“Doorbeen carries a strong message along with ample of entertainment,” added the director of the movie.

Ninja, who is seen to be really enthusiastic about the release of Doorbeen recently took to social media to share that 20% of the movie’s profit will go for the Punjab flood relief fund. So, in addition to the entertainment value, Doorbeen will also add to social value of Punjab.

The movie also stars Jass Bajwa, Jasmin Bajwa, Harby Sangha, Karamjit Anmol, Yograj Singh, Hobby Dhaliwal, and Rupinder Rupi in pivotal roles. It is slated to hit the silver screen on 27th September.

One of the much awaited on-screen jodis that we are anxiously waiting to watch is that of Sonam Bajwa and Ajay Sarkaria from the upcoming Whitehill Studios’ movie, Ardab Mutiyaran. The movie is directed by Manav Shah.

Recently, Ajay took down to social media to share a still from Ardab Mutiyaran. In this picture, Ajay and Sonam are posing as their on-screen characters Rinku and Babbu and it seems to be their on-screen wedding still.

Speaking to the press the director Ishan Chopra said, “ Doorbeen is basically a story about how alcohol gets smuggled through strange techniques. The film carries a strong message along with ample entertainment.”

Ninja, the leading man seems to be quite excited about his film. While interacting with media, the singer turned actor said, “I am glad to play a very different kind of role in Doorbeen. Wamiqa Gabbi who is known for her stupendous acting talent seems to be equally passionate about her role. From the trailer, it seems that though there are various characters in the movie played different actors of repute including Ninja, Mehreen Pirzada and the new entrant Ajay Sarkaria, yet the movie seems to be revolving aroud one character primarily, which is that of Babbu Bains, played by Sonam Bajwa.

Although many might recall Sonam’s Guddiyan Patole avatar after watching this trailer, yet there are no two thoughts about the fact that Sonam brings an entirely different shade to this one.

Here seems to be an ultra tomboyish, fiesty girl who isn’t afraid to play by her own rules, regardless how the society perceives her attitude. Babbu Bains is a finance recovery agent, who knows how to bend the customers to get the money. She has her own way and it isn’t just her tongue that speaks but her hands, legs and hockeys too!

It is shown that even when she gets married, she doesn’t give in to the family traditions and scheming ladies, rather, she always takes a stand for herself. The rest of the cast especially, Ninja and Ajay Sarkaria seem to be totally fitting into their characters as well. Mehreen is pretty and seemingly, good in this role too.

But the final verdict about Ardab Mutiyaran can only be given after watching the entire film in the theatre on 18th October. So far, so good! Expectations are high. Whether the film will be as entertaining as the trailer, we’ll have to wait and watch.
