When the teaser of Nadhoo Khan was released a few days ago, expectations went soaring high from its makers as it denoted sheer cinematic brilliance. Also the fact that the film is touted as the first period Punjabi film to be shot in ‘wide-frame’, it’s natural to pin hopes on it to deliver something really outstanding.

Now that the trailer of Nadhoo Khan is out, one can comfortably assume that this one is going to be a class-apart film with not just eye-candy shots, good-looking actors, delightful background score but also a strong storyline as well.
Featuring Harish Verma and Wamiqa Gabbi in the lead, the film is about a man called ‘Nadhoo Khan’, who is shown to be a wrestler belonging to the pre-independence era. The trailer shows how Nadhoo is a simpleton – a village boy inclined towards light-hearted side of life (Friendships, humour, romance) in the early part of the film but awakened all of a sudden by the elderly men of his family who expect him to be a top-notch wrestler completely focused on his sport.
Without revealing the storyline much in the trailer, the makers have conveyed a message. A message that Nadhoo Khan (directed by Imran Sheikh) is not to be taken lightly at all. It seems to be a well-made film – capable of being loved by the audience that yearns for cinema providing a good mix of entertainment and cultural awareness. The song ‘Multan’ from the film has already won praise on the Internet and suggests a possible link to Pakistan’s Punjab in the movie.
If you’re not bored of period movies, Nadhoo Khan is definitely a film to look forward to. The film presents a fresh jodi of ‘Harish Verma and Wamiqa Gabbi’ on-screen and this is Harish Verma’s first period movie.
Produced by Loudroar films and Music Tym Productions, Nadhoo Khan releases on April 26.
When Gippy-Sargun’s Chandigarh-Amritsar-Chandigarh’s release date was announced a few weeks back, it was assumed that it might get shifted as it was clashing head on with another big film – Ammy-Sargun’s starrer – Muklawa (produced by Whitehill Studios). However, now since the team of CAC has officially released its first-look poster, only a few days after Muklawa’s, it’s confirmed that the clash is going to happen for sure.

Noted Film Critic Taran Adarsh shared the release date of CAC today itself.
Few days back Whitehill Studios also released the first-look poster of Muklawa:
It may be noted here that Muklawa’s release date was earlier told to be 3rd May. However, just a day after the release date of Dlljit Dosanjh’s Hindi film – Arjun Patiala was announced (which is now postponed to July 19!), Whitehill Studios postponed Muklawa for a May 24 release (the date which was earlier booked by another Punjabi film – Shadaa. Shadaa is now releasing on 21st June).

With just a few days left for the release of the much-awaited Punjabi movie, Manje Bistre 2, Punjabis across the globe are seen to be rejoicing over the musical melodies of the movie. The sequel of family drama romantic movie, Manje Bistre (2017), the movie “celebrates the rich culture and heritage of Punjab along with a tinge of comedy in the backdrop of a normal Punjabi family in Canada,” shares Gippy Grewa exclusively to iampunjaabi.com.
Speaking about the inspiration behind Manje Bistre 2, Gippy shares, “I have also noticed this thing in abroad that Punjabis are staying true to our rich culture & heritage whole-heartedly. However, the sheen seems to be lost in our mother land. This revelation came to me when I attended a marriage in America, wherein they did jaago in truck which inspired me to think that why don’t we do a similar kind of a thing for collecting manje bistre and that is how Manje Bistre 2 happened in Canada.”

Shooting the movie in Canada was not really a bed of roses because “the things that we wanted to show on the silver screen were not practically possible like trucks carrying manje bistre,” informs Gippy.
“There were certain locations in Canada which didn’t allow tractors on the roads which came as a major challenge because we were supposed to take permission from the concerned authority. When we tried to seek permission, they allotted us certain particular roads but it wasn’t matching our requirements. Moreover, we really wanted to shoot a scene in Thompson Street, Vancouver but we couldn’t get permission and they warned that if we would try shooting there, they will take our cameras. So, on our last day, I along with Karamjit Anmol decided to take the plunge and do our shoot there. To our awe, many foreigners gathered at the venue and started dancing with us during the shoot and fortunately, even the concerned authorities approved for the same,” he adds.
Directed by Baljit Singh Deo, Manje Bistre 2 is all set to release on April 12, 2019. The movie also stars Simi Chahal, Gurpreet Ghuggi, Karamjit Anmol, BN Sharma, Sardar Sohi, and Hobby Dhaliwal in pivotal roles. It is being distributed worldwide by White Hill Studios.

Some movies need tremendous creativity and promotions to get noticed at the box-office while some just need a bit of ‘dare’ and ‘brains’! Well, it seems Punjabi cinema’s one of the most prolific producers, Rrupaali Gupta of Friday Russh Motion Pictures, has both!

After dishing out superhits like Mr and Mrs 420 series and Uda Aida recently, Rrupaali is back with a bang and the teaser of her next film – ’15 Lakh Kadon Aauga’ illustrates her daring attitude as this film is a satire on fake promises being made by our country’s powermen – in this case being the sum of Rs 15 lakh that PM Modi allegedly promised to give to a common man.
Teaser of 15 Lakh Kadon Aauga
Featuring singer-turned-actor Ravinder Grewal in the lead along with pretty lady Pooja Verma, ’15 Lakh Kadon Aauga’s’ teaser begins with a mimicked voice-over of PM Modi and ends with ‘Ache Din Aayenge’ joomla. In between, one can see comic situations suggesting the film to be a light-hearted comic caper making a satire on our social system and people’s expectations!
Directed by Manpreet Brar, 15 Lakh Kadon Aauga is certainly a film to look forward to. It releases on 10th May 2019.
Apart from the lead pair, the film also stars actors like Malkeet Rauni, Hobby Dhaliwal, Gurpreet Bhangu and many more.
The madness and celebration of Manje Bistre is now back with a ‘videshi’ touch at Canada!
Manje Bistre 1 and 2: A Contrast
The madness and celebration of Manje Bistre is now back with a ‘videshi’ touch at Canada!
The charm of the bygone era when Punjabi weddings were all about singing bolliyaan, tapping the feet to bhangra & giddha and collecting ‘Manje Bistre’ will come alive on the silver screen on April 12, 2019 as Manje Bistre 2 will mark its release worldwide.
The 2017 Punjabi family drama romantic comedy film, Manje Bistre was a super-duper blockbuste and on this Baisakhi, the sequel of the movie is all set to make a comeback with resonating madness, romance, comedy, and laughter. So, we strike a contrast between both the parts on what all can you expect!
An Underlying Storyline
As the name of the movie indicates, the main idea behind ‘Manje Bistre’ is to pay an ode to the opulent rites & rituals of the Punjabi weddings and the underlying storyline of Manje Bistre 2 will remain to be the same.
The ‘Global’ Touch
However, this time the madness and masti will be double the fun because Manje Bistre team has reached the favourite ‘adda’ of Punjabis, Canada. So, the sequel of the movie will bring a ‘videshi’ touch to the underlying storyline. Watch out for to get a sneak-peak into how our very own Punjabis are making us proud by staying true to their culture and heritage.
The Plot
The plot of Manje Bistre and its sequel is the main differentiator between the two. While the first part of the series was set-up in a traditional backdrop of Punjab, Manje Bistre 2 celebrates the NRI Punjabi wedding. The story of Manje Bistre revolved around a Punjabi wedding, with elements of romance and comedy. Wherein Sukhi, while preparing for his sister’s wedding, meets Rano and immediately falls in love with her. Rano, being Sukhi’ sister’s friend is a hesitant lover and during their romantic alliance many other characters are introduced throughout the film.
However, Manje Bistre 2 narrates the tale of a wedding happening in Canada with all Punjabi rituals. Amid the wedding celebration and rituals, Gippy Grewal, the lead actor falls for a beautiful girl played by Simi Chahal and their romance starts stirring. However, the trouble in the paradise comes when Gippy unknowingly ends up having a heated argument with Simi’s father.
The Romantic Affair
While Manje Bistre saw the romantic affair of Sonam Bajwa and Gippy Grewal, Manje Bistre 2 will witness the first time on-screen duo of Gippy Grewal and Simi Chahal who made her Punjabi film debut with Bambukat in 2016. The jodi is being praised by the critics for their jovial charm.
The Music
The melodious symphonies of Manje Bistre including its title track, Boliyan and Zubaan have already won the hearts of people across the globe. So, we are eagerly waiting for April 12, 2019 to finally watch Manje Bistre 2 on the big screen. What about you?
A film which feasts the eyes, tugs at the heartstrings, deals with a strong subject, delivers an important message, without anywhere missing out on the “entertainment” quotient, is how we can describe Rakesh Mehta’s YAARA VE in one sentence!
A film which feasts the eyes, tugs at the heartstrings, deals with a strong subject, delivers an important message, without anywhere missing out on the “entertainment” quotient, is how we can describe Rakesh Mehta’s YAARA VE in one sentence!
Produced by Bally Singh Kakar, Yaara Ve revolves around a simple theme of friendship that stands the test of time. However, the differentiator here is that this friendship is between three friends belonging to three different religions – a Hindu, a Sikh and a Muslim. Sounds a little like a rairty in today’s times? However, back in Punjab before partition, this is how the way of life was, wherein it didn’t matter which sect or religion you came from, as “Punjabi” was the only identification that people of that beautiful era knew of.
For those who maybe imagining Yaara Ve to be a little on the sombre side of things as it touches a sensitive theme of partition should be rest assured after reading our review as this film only brushes past this subject like a tangent, and is far from evoking any harrowing memories of those times.
In fact, film Yaara Ve can be well regarded as a “need-of-the-hour” kind of film considering the unrest we are experiencing in our country when it comes to the issue of “religion”. The film effectively portrays how life was simple and joyful during the months preceding the partition with the innocent people hardly knowing anything about the politics of the issue.
Rakesh Mehta and team have effectively shown the ground-reality of Punjabi during those days and the fact that it was never Punjabis who wanted partition, but ironically, they were the ones who suffered the most.
Talking about the technical aspects of the film, Yaara Ve scores full points here. Each and every frame of the film is a treat to watch suggesting top-notch cinematographic skills and the hardwork that went into creating the stunning sets. A big round of applause for the Art Department here.
While many might find the first half a little dragged, the second half is gripping enough to compensate for that. The dialogues and the music both help in carrying forward the story and thankfully, the situations are pleasant enough to make us laugh without the aid of a plethora of comic one-liners.
Acting department is decent enough. There’s no one in the film that you can pinpoint and say that they didn’t fit into their character. Every actor seems to be well-fitted into their roles. While Monica Gill looks splendid in traditional outfits, Raghveer Boli makes his special presence felt with his awesome acting skills. Gagan Kokri seems to have improved a lot since his ‘Laatu’ days. Yuvraj is always an amazing actor to see whenever he comes on screen.
Veterans have done what they were supposed to do. No one stands out in any special way though.
Overall, Yaara Ve is a light-hearted family entertainer with the “Punjab of 1947” as its backdrop. Do not expect this film to highlight any socio-political matters of those times.
