Sonam Bajwa in Ardab Mutiyaran: Has Punjabi Cinema’s Sri Devi Arrived? (What We Think)
For a long time, Punjabi film industry has remained a male-dominated industry. Unlike Bollywood, where even in 80s and 90s, female actors like Sridevi and Madhuri Dixit rightfully, owned the ‘hero’ status and their very presence in a flick led to the crowds thronging the theatres, Punjabi cinema is still very much dependent on its male stars.
While Neeru Bajwa has managed to retain the perfect ‘heroine’ status in our industry for quite a number of years, yet the industry had been still waiting to see a female actor as its .main driving force However, it seems that the year 2019 has finally led to the end of its wait, as an extremely talented female actor in our industry seems to have grabbed that coveted space!
Her Babbu Bains has so incredibly hit the chords with the audience that you can’t find a single negative comment under Ardab Mutiyaran’s trailer on Youtube. Her chutzpah, mischievous and bindass look is being compared with Sridevi of Chalbaaz and Mr. India and we think, the actor is hugely talented who knows her job well.
Yes, we’re talking about Sonam Bajwa, who early this year, gave Punjab its first female-led film as a superhit, (being the highest opener at the box office so far) and that too, in a role which can be compared to the legends that we’ve seen in Bollywood.

As if it was just the beginning, ever since the trailer of White Hill Studios’ upcoming movie, ‘Ardab Mutiyaran’ was released, it’s just Sonam Bajwa’s ‘Babbu Bains’ that seems to be the talk of the town!

We’re sure that the director (Manav Shah) and producers (Gunbir Singh Sidhu and Manmord Sidhu) have made the right choice by keeping Sonam for this role. Let’s see how things fare at the box office on October 18 when Ardab Mutiyaran releases worldwide.

Exclusive Interview with Ajay Sarkaria: Making His Debut With ‘Ardab Mutiyaran’

Ajay Sarkaria, owner of swashbuckling looks and acting talent which is honed by the Lee Starsberg Theatre and Film institute (New York), is all set to become the next big thing in Punjabi cinema. With a strong belief that there’s a huge scope for non-singer actors too to make their mark in the industry, Ajay is all set to break the stereotypes with his first film, Ardab Mutiyaran.

Making his debut with upcoming Punjabi movie ‘Ardab Mutiyaran’, along with none other than the likes of Sonam Bajwa and Ninja, Ajay has been garnering praises ever since the movie’s trailer was released.

Born in Amritsar and brought up in Chandigarh, the young actor says that he’s been fond of acting since his childhood days. “Right after doing my law (as my parents wanted it), I enrolled myself in an acting training academy in New York which helped me understand the nuances of the profession. I am glad that I took that step, which finally landed me in Mumbai and fetched some quality work experience too,” reminisces Ajay, who was a part of famous TV series 24 (season 2), Ek Sringar Swaabhimaan on Colors and also a few TV commercials.

On being paired with Sonam Bajwa, Ajay says, “Of course, I had some particular notions about working with her initially. However, I was startled at the amount of cooperation I received from her. She was very adjusting and made me feel very comfortable on the sets.”

Produced by industry’s top production house, Whitehill Studios, Ardab Mutiyaran releases on 18th October. The film is being touted as a comic caper weaved around the theme of ‘girl-power’. So how much did Ajay get a chance to make his mark in the film?

“The film is so beautifully written that every character of the movie is equally important. Getting a chance to make my debut through White Hill Studios’ film is indeed a blessing.”

He adds, “I play a guy named Rinku Bansal, who is a very calm and loving boy who has to go through a lot of trouble before getting hitched.”

While signing off, he remarks, “Ardab Mutiyaran is a full-on family comedy with a focus on feminine power. It’s a film that everyone must watch.”
