Sonam Bajwa in Ardab Mutiyaran: Has Punjabi Cinema’s Sri Devi Arrived? (What We Think)

by Monita Sharma
For a long time, Punjabi film industry has remained a male-dominated industry. Unlike Bollywood, where even in 80s and 90s, female actors like Sridevi and Madhuri Dixit rightfully, owned the ‘hero’ status and their very presence in a flick led to the crowds thronging the theatres, Punjabi cinema is still very much dependent on its male stars.
Yes, we’re talking about Sonam Bajwa, who early this year, gave Punjab its first female-led film as a superhit, (being the highest opener at the box office so far) and that too, in a role which can be compared to the legends that we’ve seen in Bollywood.

As if it was just the beginning, ever since the trailer of White Hill Studios’ upcoming movie, ‘Ardab Mutiyaran’ was released, it’s just Sonam Bajwa’s ‘Babbu Bains’ that seems to be the talk of the town!

We’re sure that the director (Manav Shah) and producers (Gunbir Singh Sidhu and Manmord Sidhu) have made the right choice by keeping Sonam for this role. Let’s see how things fare at the box office on October 18 when Ardab Mutiyaran releases worldwide.
