After hooking the audience with its poster and some amazing songs, the makers of upcoming Punjabi film AFSAR have made sure that their film’s buzz reaches every nook and cranny of Punjab. Certainly, this Nimrat Khaira and Tarsem Jassar starrer is all that the punjabi audience is excited about these days, and there are some good enough reasons for that. The Concept:

It takes guts to attempt something different especially in Punjabi cinema that’s largely famous for its run-of-the-mill comedies. Nadar Films and Vehli Janta Films, known for its films like Bambukat and Rabb Da Radio – the motion pictures that didn’t just entertain people, but also passed on beautiful messages through their brilliant storylines, are now rolling AFSAR that deals with a major issue in Punjab!Those living in villages can certainly relate with the commoners obsession for ‘Patwaris’ – Patwaris who are even considered bigger in rank than the Kanugos! Written by Jass Grewal and directed by Gulshan Singh AFSAR’s story revolves around this very concept only, wherein even though the lead hero – Tarsem Jassar – is a Kanugo (Afsar) yet he’s asked to step down from his rank to that of a ‘Patwari’. The Music:

Whether it’s the foot-tapping song, Kheen Khaam or the romantic number by Ranjit Bawa – Sun Sohniye or the best one – the title song ‘Patwaari’, the brilliant music of AFSAR has captivated the audience like anything. Preet Hundal, the music director has done a great job and the heart-touching ‘Ishq Jeha Ho Gaya’ is another ultimate from this music album of AFSAR. It’s rare these days to have a film with all its songs super-hit, but team AFSAR has certainly done it.

The Starcast:

This is for the first time that a remarkable pairing like Tarsem Jassar and Nimrat Khaira has happened in Punjabi cinema. While Tarsem Jassar has displayed his acting prowess well with films like Rabb Da Radio, Sardar Mohammad and a guest appearance in Daana Paani, Nimrat Khaira had an impressive debut as the second lead in Lahoriye last year. Both Jassar and Khaira have a massive following in not just Punjab but also internationally. This good-looking jodi is going to be a major crowd-puller for AFSAR.

Slated to release on October 5, ‘Afsar’ is a romantic comedy. Besides Tarsem Jassar and Nimrat Khaira, the film stars Gurpreet Ghuggi, Karamjit Anmol, Rana Jung Bahadur and Pukhraj Bhalla.

Great news for fans : Ardaas 2 to release next year

Ardaas 2 All Set To Release in 2019.

Written and directed by Gippy Grewal, Ardaas 2 promises to be even more intriguing than Ardaas; will provide an insight into the social issues co-existing in our society.

The Punjabi drama – religious film, Ardaas which was released two years ago is still afresh in the minds of the Punjabi audiences owing to its unique content and massive success. Carrying forward the legacy in utmost opulence, Humble Motion Pictures is back with Ardaas 2 which is scheduled to release in the next year.

Written & directed by Gippy Grewal, Ardaas 2 has the same underlying thread like it’s former movie. It highlights the various social issues creeping in our society and how we can collectively join hands to rise high from the menace.

“Ardaas 2 has been on the anvil since quite some time now and I feel really happy to announce its release in 2019. The project is really close to my heart and I am certain that our Punjabi audiences will love the movie” stated Gippy Grewal, who’s recently shooting the upcoming Punjabi movie Chandigarh Ambarsar Chandigarh. It is going to be Grewal’s first movie with Sargun Mehta.

The final date and star-cast of Ardaas 2 is yet to be announced.

Meet the ‘Afsars’ Of AFSAR!

After making sure that the audience stays glued to each and every update about the film AFSAR with its captivating trailer, an amazing contest, and three beautiful songs, the makers of AFSAR have finally introduced the much sought-after Sarkaari Mulaazims of AFSAR – the lead characters of the film!

So here we go:

Harman Madam, played by Nimrat Khaira is a “Patwari” in the movie AFSAR! Have you ever seen any Patwari prettier than this one?

Master Joga Singh played by Gurpreet Ghuggi, isn’t a Patwari but well, keeps an “eye” on a lovely Patwari (you know what we mean!)

PATWARI Bharpoor Singh played by Karamjit Anmol : Ah! The way he introduces himself isn’t it self-explanatory who this man is? Quintessentially, a Patwari!

And finally, we meet our most honest AFSAR – KANUGO JASPAL played by TARSEM JASSAR! Though he’s very imaandaar and above every other ‘afsar’, yet ironically, he’s asked to step down from his rank to a lower one? Why? You have to watch the movie to know that!

Helmed by Gulshan Singh, the movie has been produced by Amiek Virk and Manpreet Johal. ‘Afsar’ is the debut movie of singer turn actor Nimrat Khaira as the lead artist. She was earlier seen essaying a short yet important character in the movie ‘Lahoriye’ last year. The film releases on 5th October worldwide.

While Roshan Prince’s upcoming film Ranjha Refugee’s poster was unveiled yesterday, now the news of the shoot of his 2019 film, ‘Munda Faridkotiya’ has also come.

Roshan Prince himself shared the news on his social media. Helmed by Mandeep Singh Chahal, the shoot location of the film is finalised for Faridkot, Chandigarh and Malerkotla.

5 Times Gippy Grewal Hogged The Limelight This Year

Mainstream cinema, experimental cinema, being the hero onscreen or behind the camera – from singing to acting to directing to producing, there seems no field of entertainment that Gippy hasn’t tried his hands on and more importantly, OWNED it! Even in this year, there have been several occasions when our desi Rockstar made it to the headlines! Check out!

1. Smashing the Box Office

Whether it was Carry On Jatta 2 or Mar Gaye Oye Loko, Gippy Grewal made sure that both his avatars as a “hero” and a “writer” don’t go unnoticed! While the much-awaited hysterical movie ‘Carry On Jatta 2’ smashed all records at the box office, becoming the highest Punjabi grossing of all time (earning a whopping Rs 3.65 crore gross on the first day itself), Mar Gaye Oye Loko’s first day collection was pretty impressive as well (around 2 crore gross!). Though the producer in Gippy took a big risk by making a film on “life-after-death” for Punjabis – a concept totally novel for Punjabi cinema audience- yet his massive fan following showed full support fetching in some awesome numbers at the box-office.

2. Playing the National Hero

No matter what the fate of the movie at the box office, there’s no denying the fact that Gippy Grewal’s hugely ambitious project Subedar Joginder Singh will be remembered for a long time to come. The honesty with which he played the role of the martyr, and the hard work that our ‘kaptaan’ put in looking the part in this coming of age film, can never be forgotten. When the poster of the movie came out, his uncanny resemblance to the national hero was lauded by one and all. Later, when the movie released, Gippy’s work was highly appreciated. His attempt of bringing the valor of a soldier, who with a battalion of 21 men fought against a whole army, helped him gain a lot of love and respect from Punjabi cinema’s ardent lovers. It’s a different story though that the film suffered badly due to its not-so-clever promotional strategy.

3. When he bagged the offer of being the Director for a Bollywood flick

During Carry On Jatta 2’s release, it was revealed that Gippy Grewal had bagged the role of directing a Bollywood film which will star Taapsee Pannu as the lead actress. He was also quoted as saying, “I have been signed on as a director for a Hindi film which has a huge star cast. I got the offer after the makers saw my Punjabi film ‘Ardaas’ that was directed by me.”

4. When he was chosen for Punjab CM for his #NashteToAzaadi Campaing

In order to liberate the State from the deadly clutches of drug menace, Punjab CM Captain Amarinder Singh in August, launched a #NasheToAzaadi (freedom from drugs) campaign. Capt Amarinder urged Gippy Grewal to promote and encourage a drug free Punjab through his songs and films. Gippy Grewal happily accepted the challenge and said that drugs is a “trying problem of our times, and we have to beat drugs in Punjab”. He urged the youth not to do drugs, and also not to allow others to do drugs.

5. When he received a threat call

In a disturbing event, Gippy Grewal, was threatened by a mobster named Dilpreet in June — the same person who shot at Parmish Verma in April. In an interview during Mar Gaye Oye Loko Promotions, Grewal said that the threat didn’t “Affect” him and he has moved on from that incident. “One has to work, and you can’t get affected by such incidents. In my case, I’ve been really lucky to get the support of the police and my team, who have made sure that I don’t get bothered by such incidents,” he said in an interview.

‘Mindo Taseeldarni’: After ‘Laavan Phere’ Karamjit Anmol and Rajiv Singla team up again

In this season of announcements, Karamjit Anmol is the next one to reveal his next year’s plan.

He shared his movie plan for 2019 by announcing his production venture ‘Mindo Taseeldarni’. Anmol is producing the project along with Rajiv Singla.

Before this, Anmol and Singla have worked together for their highly successful venture – Laavan Phere along with Prem Prakash Gupta.

The details regarding the exact release date and the cast of ‘Mindo Taseeldarni’ haven’t been shared with media yet. However, one thing we know of is that the movie will be directed by Avtar Singh who’s also done work on the script of the movie.

Kitty Party : Here’s the heroine of Nav Bajwa’s Next

In this season of “announcements”, another Punjabi film has been announced. The recent celebrity who spilled beans on his 2019’s project is Nav Bajwa.

The actor turn director shared the poster ‘Kitty Party’, which is slated to release on 12 July 2019. In this film, his heroine will be Kainaat Arora, who gave an impressive performance as Gippy Grewal’s leading lady in Faraar (2015).

Besides donning the director’s hat for the movie, Nav Bajwa is a part of the cast and has worked on the script as well.

‘Gurnam Bhullar To Make An Entry Along With Ninja, Ranjit Bawa and Jassie Gill in this upcoming film

The trend of directors becoming producers in Punjabi cinema is a new one in our industry. The debut production venture of renowned director Pankaj Batra has been turning heads of late. His film is though untitled yet, but the names it has on board are pretty known and popular artistes of Punjabi industry.

While Ranjit Bawa, Ninja and Jassie Gill’s inclusion in the project was revealed in the beginning itself, now the introduction of a new artist is making the news. Recently, Pankaj Batra took it to his social media to share the picture of Punjabi singer Gurnam Bhullar (Diamond fame) posing along with him and the lead cast of the movie – Jassie Gill, Ranjit Bawa and Ninja.

Gurnam is of late, one of the most wanted actors in Punjabi cinema. He’s already signed his debut movie opposite Sonam Bajwa. The movie is reportedly titled ‘Surkhi Bindi’, and is slated to release next year on March 8. Besides this, he has signed three more Punjabi movies, one of them being Kala Shah Kala with Binnu Dhillon and Sargun Mehta.

Talking about Pankaj Batra’s production, it is a story of three friends and their struggle of living abroad. The tale revolves around their bond and the hardship they go through. Along with Jassie Gill, Ranjit Bawa and Ninja, the movie has Navneet Kaur Dhillon in a pivotal role. The movie is slated to hit the theatres on 22nd Feburary 2019.
