Mar Gaye Oye Loko: Gippy Grewal Shares What It’s Like To Be a Writer & Producer

It would definitely be an understatement to call Gippy Grewal one of the most-loved Punjabis across the globe. He dons so many hats that it is really difficult to unify him under one profession. His journey which started as a singer many years ago today spans its expertise in being an actor, writer, director and producer; making him an indispensable gem of the Ballewood industry.

Gippy Grewal has an array of awards & accolades to his credit; he has always been appreciated for his indomitable will & zeal to experiment new things and his upcoming Indian-punjabi movie, Mar Gaye Oye Loko stands testament to the same. Now ahead of his upcoming film- Mar Gaye Oye Loko, which he has not only written himself but produced as well, Gippy shares some of his thoughts about acting this part of his life.

“I think being an actor myself, I am able to justify my job as a producer better. A normal producer thinks just the way a producer thinks – keeping in mind the financial aspects of everything, however being an actor, I treat my actors just the same way I like to be treated when I am working on someone else’s shoots. I also know that most of the artistes these days have enormous time constraints so they need to be free from the shoots within a stipulated time. That’s why I am extremely punctual as a producer and believe a lot in preparations months in advance. The only reason being that just because of production delays, an artiste must not suffer,” he says.

As far as Mar Gaye Oye Loko is concerned, Gippy quips, “We all have grown up to hear stories about how life is after death but, no one has really seen it. I have always fantasized about how it would be and how we Punjabis will make our own entity even up there and that’s exactly what translates in this story-driven movie. It is a complete package for everyone alike,” said Gippy.

He further added, “The idea of this came to me before Ardaas; I had thought of the plot, I just had to work on the script and then, Baljit paaji came up with Manje Bistre and I really liked the idea of promoting our rich culture & heritage; so I went ahead with it. For all this while, Mar Gaye Oye Loko never took a backseat as it was always on my mind. I even got an offer for making it a Bollywood movie, but I wanted to produce it under the banner of Humble Motion Pictures. So, here we are!”

Gippy informed that Mar Gaye Oye Loko was shot in a mere time span of a month at different locations across Punjab. However, it is a very expensive film. “Making a fantasy film is truly a cumbersome process; since it involves a lot of pre-production setup and post-production editing. However, producing this movie was once in a lifetime experience,” he said.

The movie will hit the silver screen on August 31, 2018. It is directed by Simarjit Singh and features Gippy Grewal, Binnu Dhillon, Sapna Pabbi, Jaswinder Bhalla, Karamjit Anmol, B.N. Sharma, Raghveer Boli, Gurpreet Ghuggi, Jaggi Singh, Hobby Dhaliwal, Baninder Bunny, and Gurpreet Bhangu in pivotal roles.

Amrinder Gill’s ‘Happy Bhangra Movement’ Is Breaking The Internet At The Moment!

As the movie release date gets closer, the makers of the film generally release its trailers, dialogue promos or teasers to keep the public engaged but the team of Rhythm Boyz Entertainment has taken a detour from normal and perhaps, their latest offering ASHKE (releasing on 27th July) becomes the first-ever Punjabi film to get released without a trailer!

However, it seems this promotional strategy has paid off pretty well as the whole internet is abuzz with the talks of ASHKE’s trailer – yes, a trailer that doesn’t exist! Could this be a part of a well-strategized promotion plan? As if this is not enough, public is equally busy, finding clues within the official posters of ASHKE, with one of them showing Amrinder Gill breaking into a cool Bhangra step and another one with a whole team of turbanators dressed alike in uniform, wherein veteran actor Jaswinder Bhalla carries a golden trophy in hand.

While Amrinder Gill’s still dance movement is breaking the internet as of now, the sources have revealed that ASHKE is a film based on Punjab’s folk dance Bhangra. The story is about a Bhangra team of Khalsa College in Amritsar — a team that is full of energy, enthusiasm, zeal and passion to do something good and big.

Though a vast number of people are hoping something really positive from Rhythm Boyz Entertainment yet again – a production house behind biggest blockbusters like Bambukat, Angrej, Love Punjab, Lahoriye, Vekh Baraatan Challiyan and Golak Bugni Bank Te Batua, a few have come up with negative speculations as well, writing about the delay in the trailer in a derogatory manner.

However, the team of Rhythm Boyz Entertainment have laughed off the speculations saying that like always the Punjabi audience is in for a Big surprise. “We’re glad that people are writing about ASHKE even without us paying them any money. While most producers spend dollops on media publicity, we are getting it for free.”

As for ASHKE’s cast, for the part of Amrinder Gill’s leading lady, TV actor Sanjeeda Ali Sheikh is making her Punjabi debut. Made under the banners of the Rhythm Boyz Entertainment and Hayre Omjee Studios, the films stars Jaswinder Bhalla, Hobby Dhaliwal, Vandana Chopra, Sarabjeet Cheema and Gurshabad as well. The music of the film is composed by ace music director, Jatinder Shah, and the story, screenplay and dialogues have been written by Dheeraj Rattan. According to reports, the film has been shot in Amritsar and Canada.

The most amazing thing that has happened in our industry is the acceptance of Binnu Dhillon as the lead role by our big-hearted audience!

The brilliant actor, who was once seen as just a comedian, is now giving blockbusters as the “male lead” and winning hearts allover! After giving superhits like Vekh Baraatan Challiyaan and recently, Vadhayiyaan Ji Vadhayiyaan, our industry’s top heroines have started showing interest in working along with Binnu as his leading lady.

The name that has come forth in the last couple of days is that of Lahoriye and Angrej famed, Sargun Mehta, who’s not just joining Binnu in the acting department but also in the production as well. Yes, Sargun has launched her open production house – DREAMITYATA ENTERTAINMENT and the upcoming film, titled Kala Shah Kala, will be her joint venture with Binnu’s Naughty Men Productions.

When Mr and Mrs 420 released in 2014, the entire Punjabi film industry was taken in by surprise by the cash registers the movie set ringing at the box-office!

When Mr and Mrs 420 released in 2014, the entire Punjabi film industry was taken in by surprise by the cash registers the movie set ringing at the box-office!

Now after a wait of four years, the sequel of this blockbuster flick is coming and its trailer is just out!

Our first thoughts: Lit!! Yes, just like the first hysterical installment, the trailer of the second part also suggests to give the audience a big scoop of comedy. With the same theme of gender role-reversals, ‘Mr & Mrs 420 Returns’ is also expected to give a nice family comedy to Punjabi viewers.

Directed by Ksshitij Chaudhary of fame – Vekh Baraatan Challiyan and recently, Golak, Bugni, Bank te Batua, the movie’s starcast includes Jassie Gill, Ranjit Bawa, Jaswinder Bhalla, Gurpreet Ghuggi, Payal Rajput and Avantika Hundal.

WATCH THE TRAILER OF MR and MRS 420 RETURNS

The best part about the trailer is surely the female avatars of two of the male actors. For those wishing to see Jassie Gill in a clean-shaven look, their wish has finally come true, albeit in a more feminine way! Yes, this Jassie Gill will play one of the male-turned-into-female characters along with the very cute, Karamjit Anmol. (Remember, Jassie Gill didn’t get a chance to show “the feminine” side of him in the first part!)

The entry of Ranjit Bawa in this installment seems to be an added bonus. His cute expressions were loved in VBC, and we hope the actor will deliver something worth remembering in Mr and Mrs 420 Returns as well.

Kudos to Friday Russh Motion Pictures’ Rrupaali Gupta for keeping her promise and doling the much-in-demand 2nd installment of Mr and Mrs 420 well in time!

The film releases on 15th August 2018. Enjoy this Independence Day with our Punjabi stars, laughing out till the stomach aches.
