Vadda Kalakaar – the comeback film of famous Punjabi singer and musician Alfaaz is in news for some time due to its smashing trailer and stupendous starcast! With veterans like Yograj Singh and BN Sharma in it along with Diamond fame, Roopi Gill in a prominent role, Vadda Kalakaar traces the journey of a struggling actor who gets inspired to foray into films after watching movies on the ‘VCRs’ – a trend during early 90s in Punjab.

Interestingly, according to the producer Prince Amrit Juneja, one of the best roles in this film belongs to Yograj Singh – who isn’t actually what is shown in the trailer!

“Like most Punjabis, I’ve been a die-hard fan of Yograj ji and it’s indeed my great luck that he agreed to be a part of this film. In fact, you’d be surprised to see that Yograj Singh’s role is not what is shown in the trailer. He is something/someone altogether different in the film, something that I can’t reveal to you right now! Also, Yograj Singh has put in not just his best foot forward professionally but also immersed with the crew on a personal level. He motivated me a lot and also revealed that he hasn’t done this kind of role ever in his life before,” he said in an exclusive interview to us.

Vadda Kalakaar brought to you by Red Castle Motion pictures (Prince Amrit Juneja and Satish Katyal being the main producers), releases on 28th December. The movie clashes with another Punjabi film called Titanic. However, the producers of this film remain unperturbed. “We are so confident about our product and the concept that this movie is about that competition doesn’t matter. We wish every Punjabi film becomes successful as a lot of effort of a lot many people goes into making it,” says Katyal. 

The director of the film, Kuldeep Kaushik, has to say this about his film, “The main character (Alfaaz) gets inspired by the film industry and he wishes to become a hero, but he has to face many frauds and undergo several struggles to achieve his goal. His struggle is filled with innumerable interesting incidents that will surely leave the audience laughing.”

With a plethora of films lined up for year 2019, practically all actors from our little tinsel town are occupied with one film or another. Mandy Takhar and Jobanpreet Singh are also busy the same way! The duo coming up for the first time together on silver screen is shooting currently for their film ‘Saak’.

Slated to release on 7th June 2019, ‘Saak’ is touted to be a period war drama with some elements of romance added to it. The movie has been written by Kamaljit Singh and he is the one who is directing the same. Along with Jobanpreet Singh and Mandy Takhar, the movie also stars Mukul Dev, Dilawar Sidhu, Rupinder Rupi, Sonpreet Jawanda, Gurdeep Brar and Mahabir Bhullar.

The Producers Guild of India has hailed the decision of government to reduce GST on cinema tickets as a “progressive step” which will help the industry “move forward positively”.

According to a statement, the Guild is happy with the reduction of GST on film tickets, exceeding Rs 100 to 18 percent from 28 percent and up to Rs 100 to 12 percent from 18 percent. 

“This will help the industry move forward positively with increased investments in both exhibition infrastructure and creative development. We look forward to continuing to engage with the government on initiatives that will help to unleash the full potential of the film industry,” Siddharth Roy Kapur, President of Producers Guild of India said in a statement.

Ajay Devgn, too, tweeted about the same, thanking Narendra Modi for the move:

As far as Punjabi film industry goes, Whitehill Studios’ owners Gunbir Singh Sidhu and Manmord Sidhu expressed their gratitude to the government as well. They both unanimously welcomed the move and said that this move shall take a lot of burden off Punjabi film producers enabling them to come up with even better cinema and greater screen density.”

On 19th and 20th December, actress Priyanka Chopra and Nick Jonas had their second and third reception in Mumbai. Both were gala events but on the 19th of Dec, one actress from our very Punjabi film industry got a chance to be one of the coveted guests at the wedding.

Well, the actress is none other than chirpy Bhajjo Veero Ve lead Simi Chahal. Simi was the heroine of Priyanka’s debut maiden Punjabi production ‘Sarvann’. 

Simi Chahal graced the event with her mother. The squad of four Simi Chahal, her mother, Priyanka Chopra and Nick Jonas were all smiles when they posed for the camera. Simi took it to her Instagram handle to share the pictures from the reception and wrote, “#NICKYANKA Reception???? A lot of people are your friends till the time you can provide them something of value but there are a very few who would remember you when you’d be no more there for them. In entertainment industry, usually it’s difficult to find true friends. A lot of people form friendships only on the basis of how much useful you are to them. However, Gippy Grewal has proved from time to time that he’s a true ‘yaaran da yaaran’. 

Last week the desi rockstar lost a very dear friend of his. He not only expressed deep grief on his friend Sarbi Grewal’s sudden demise but has also made sure not to post any of his promotional videos or other media concerning his films or music. We’re glad to see how sensible this man has behaved!

In fact Gippy also made a post yesterday posting another picture with Sarbi Grewal captioning it… ‘Miss you, bro.” He even posted about his Antim Ardaas ceremony like a real family member. 

As a reminder, Sarbi Grewal lost his life last week while he was in a hotel in Mohali. He had come here from his hometown to watch Sidhu Moose Wala’s show. Police ruled out any foul play but Sarbi’s friends certainly don’t seem to have come out of the shock as yet.

India’s one of the most popular musician and rapper Yo Yo Honey Singh has made a smashing comeback by launching his latest track ‘Makhna’ featuring a new talent – Singhsta! 

The song which has been released on T-series, has a peppy vibe and a carnival feel to it. Shares Yo Yo, “I really had a great time in the process of making ‘Makhna’. I would like to thank Bhushan Kumar Ji. Also, looking forward to having many more collaborations with him in the coming year.”

The song composed, written and sung by the Singh, also features vocals by Neha Kakkar, Singhsta, Pinaki, Sean, Allistair and lyrics by Singhsta and Hommie Dilliwala. 

Since the team wanted to get a carnival look to the video, they reportedly decided to shoot in a Latin country like Puerto Rico or Columbia. However, they finally selected for Cuba, as the location is yet unexplored in India. 

Talking about his health and his sabbatical, Yo Yo shared, “I have been feeling great in the last two years, health has been good and I have therefore worked on various songs meanwhile. Taking inspirations and learning the music forms across the globe I have composed several songs in the past few years, some of them even released this year.”

Revealing the secret about his new look to media, Honey Singh said, “I wanted to treat my fans with a completely new look and hence I grew my hair for 10 months to sport a new hairstyle that would match the feel of the song.”

Makhna also introduces various new talents – TDO (THIRD DEGREE ORIGINALS). Apart from the group, ‘Makhna’ also has a new artist named Singhsta. “I came across him via my team who asked me to consider him. For almost a year and a half I trained him, then we signed him and launched him in Makhna. He is a very good artist and I feel his and my vibes match as we both hail from Delhi,” said Singh.

If there’s one woman in our Punjabi film industry who epitomises real feminine strength then she has to be Kavita Kaushik. Always standing for her rights, raising a voice against internet abusers and doing her best to give female artistes the place and respect that they deserve in our entertainment industry, Kavita Kaushik is a responsible citizen too.

Recently, the elegant lady took it to her Instagram profile to share another message for a social cause, wherein she requested her fans not to visit the wild animals kept in captivity by citing an example from her own life. 

Kavita Kaushik shared a picture of the time when she visited a zoo, but in the caption, she mentioned that now regrets the same. The actress went on to write that buying a ticket to watch the wild in the cage is like buying a ticket to watch their misery, and this is one thing she never ever would want to do again in her life. 

Her complete post read, “Not at all proud of this … yes, I was stupid to visit a place where these majestic animals are drugged, tamed, made to live in captivity for the entertainment of tourists … there are many things I’ve done in the past that I would never do again and this tops my list, I request all reading my post to refrain from going to a zoo/circus/tiger temples/ etc , it was my love for seeing these animals that I bought a ticket to their misery, I was ignorant and I admit to being wrong . The adrenaline of spotting the wild is best in the jungle in a closed vehicle and touching them or playing with them in captivity by humans is shameful … if there is no demand there will be no supply .. the planet is home for all we stay in ours n let them stay in theirs ????????

As far as her Punjabi films go, Kavita Kaushik is coming up with two more Punjabi films next year. First she’ll be appearing in ‘Mindo Taseeldarni’ along with Rajvir Jawanda and Karamjit Anmol. The movie will be hitting the big screen on 28 June 2019. Post that on August 23, 2019, she will be making it to the silver screen again with ‘Naukar Vahuti Da’. The movie is a comedy-drama that will feature her along with her ‘Vekh Baraatan Challiyan’ co-stars Binnu Dhillon and Ranjit Bawa.

It was a great news for the fans of Diljit Dosanjh and Neeru Bajwa, when it was announced in August this year that the duo is pairing up again for Jagdeep Sidhu’s directorial ‘Shadda’. The poster of the same was out and the movie was slated to release on May 24, 2019.

However, now the current update is that the release date of Shadaa has been postponed to 21st June 2019 due to Diljit’s Bollywood movie – Arjun Patiala (directed by Rohit Jugraj, fame Sardaarji series) which is due to release on 3rd May 2019. 

Interestingly, on 3rd May, Ammy Virk’s Muklawa (produced by Whitehill studios and directed by Simerjit Singh) shall also be hitting the theatres in Punjab. The movie will star the Nikka Zaildar jodi – Ammy and Sonam Bajwa once again together. So, are we heading for a clash between Ammy and Diljit?

Considering, Diljit’s movie might get a wider opening for it being a Bollywood movie and his major fanbase being Punjab, we do believe it’ll affect Ammy Virk’s Muklawa’s opening day box office report. What do you think?
