[h4]Jihne Mera Dil Luteya and Mel Karade Rabba fame producer, Vivek Ohri is back with a bang with his next movie, Blackia starring Dev Kharoud and Ihana Dhillon. [/h4]

All set to hit the silver screen on 3rd May, upcoming Punjabi drama movie, Blackia “will definitely set a benchmark,” believes Vivek Ohri, producer of the movie. Directed by Sukhminder Dhanjal and screenplay by Inderpal Singh, Blackia is set in the backdrop of 1970s and depicts the story of a young boy who becomes a victim of circumstances and gets into the smuggling business.

So, to know more about this movie, we have a candid conversation with Vivek Ohri about the storyline, his expectations, star cast, and lots more!

Could you please tell us about your latest project, Blackia? What is the basic storyline and why did you choose such an intense subject?

Blackia is based in Punjab during the 1970s. It narrates the story of a young boy, Gama, who is born into a family of gold smugglers and eventually forced into this world of crime against his wishes. On realising that he is just a puppet in the hands of certain anti-national forces, Gama decides to redeem himself by standing up against these evil forces. The movie depicts an optimistic approach towards life and how the young boy does not let the evil forces dim his shine.

What are the various shoot locations of the movie?

Blackia has been shot in different locations. However, a major part of the shooting has been done in Bathinda and Faridkot.

How was it working with Dev Kharoud and Ihana Dhillon?

I staunchly believe that they both were just made for this role. Dev and Ihana both were really co-operative, down-to-earth and dedication for all this while. Off the camera, Dev turned out to be a great friend who I believe has some very good qualities 

What are your expectations of the audience?

Blackia has a very different storyline; one that is not very common in the Punjabi film industry. So, I feel that it will be immensely loved by the Punjabi audiences and set a benchmark in the industry.

What do you think about the current status of Punjabi film industry?

Punjabi film industry is finally getting its due. We are now finally exploring more subjects and our audience is also appreciating good content over mindless comedies. This is a good news for all of us associated with the industry and I am sure this is just a beginning, there’s a long way to go still.

Harish Verma and Wamiqa Gabbi starring Nadhoo Khan is all set to hit the silver screen today, April 26th. The audiences are eagerly waiting and the movie has already successfully created a buzz. Here’s why!

•   A sneak-peak into the bygone days: Aesthetically set-up in the bygone era, Nadhoo Khan stands testament to the rich culture of Punjab, especially the strong association of Punjabis and the ‘akhada’. Shot in various remote locations across the country including Rajasthan and Fazilka, the movie provides a sneak-peak into how life looked like a few decades ago. In an interview, Wamiqa Gabbi reportedly said that in order to do one of her online tasks, she literally had to climb on the roof of her vanity van to fetch network.

•   A complete family watch: “The movie is an intense romantic drama. The storyline is very gripping. When I read the script I was convinced that I must do something so different. I haven’t done a role like this before and I said yes to the makers,” shares lead actor, Harish Verma, highlighting the fact that Nadhoo Khan is going to be a complete family watch movie.

•   Foot-tapping music: A beautiful tale of an unsung hero, Nadhoo Khan’s music tracks including Multan, Sharbati Akhiyan and Dil Diyaan Gallan have set the social media ablaze with it far-fetching views. The foot-tapping music adds to the jovial vibe and energy of the movie.

Directed by Imran Sheikh, produced by Harpreet Singh Devgun, Achint Goel and Rakesh Dahiya and penned by Sukhjinder Singh Babba, Nadhoo Khan has been produced by Loud Roar Films in association with Music Tym Production.

“I am playing a very plain character in the movie and I am hopeful that it will be loved by the audience,” Harish further added.

Acting parallel to Harish Verma is Indian actress, Wamiqa Gabbi who has worked in Hindi, Malayalam, Tamil and Telugu movies prior to Nadhoo Khan. The day before yesterday, a new poster featuring Ammy Virk in a groom’s outfit was released by the makers of upcoming film Muklawa and now yesterday, a poster featuring Sonam Bajwa has been released.

 Needless to say Sonam looks ethereally beautiful in this one, while putting on an earring. The innocence on her face is the highlight of the poster which has been receiving immense praise from her fans.

Releasing on May 24th, ‘Muklawa’ is a Simerjit Singh film. Further, produced by Gunbir Singh Sidhu and Manmord Sidhu, this romantic comedy features Ammy Virk, Sonam Bajwa, Gurpreet Ghuggi, BN Sharma, Karamjit Anmol, Sarbjit Cheema, Drishtii Garewal and Nirmal Rishi.

Talking about the plot, Muklawa is a period family drama that showcases the times when a “muklawa” ceremony was a pre-requisite for a groom to take the bride home. Even though officially married, the husband and wife weren’t allowed to meet each other before this ceremony took place. Sometimes it took one year or more for that to happen.

It is not easy for sequels of big blockbusters to receive the similar response as the original did. However, in the case of Manje Bistre 2 – the sequel of 2017’s highest opener – Manje Bistre, the box-office response is praiseworthy! 

While the film grossed INR 1.5 crore on the first day in East Punjab itself, the second day it recorded INR 2 Crore in East Punjab. The film’s weekend business was commendable too and this Gippy Grewal starrer is being especially praised for combining culture and comedy through the theme of an NRI wedding. While the first Manje Bistre was based in Punjab, the sequel was based in Canada depicting the lives of Punjabis abroad and how their living away doesn’t affect their love for Punjabi culture and traditions.
