Here’s a list of some famous Punjabi actors who made their humble beginnings with the television industry and eventually paved their way to the zenith of success in the Punjabi film industry!

Jaswinder Bhalla:

The much sought-after veteran actor of the Punjabi film industry, Jaswinder Bhalla has been an indispensable member of the Punjabi entertainment industry. Bhalla took the professional plunge as a comedian in 1988 with Chankata 88 and later became an actor with the film Dulla Bhatti.

He also performs in various stage acts and has done tours of Canada and Australia for his stage show Naughty Baba in Town. Some of his famous movies include Jihne Mera Dil Luteya, Chakk De Fatte, Mel Karade Rabba, Jatt and Juliet, and Carry on Jatta to name a few.

Not only this, Bhalla is also an academic staff at the Punjab Agricultural University.

Binnu Dhillon:

One of the most-loved actors of the Punjabi film industry, Binnu Dhillon hails his roots from Dhuri, Sangrur. Dhillon began his career as a Bhangra performer and had an opportunity to perform at the Indian Festivals in Germany and at the United Kingdom, before he made his debut in the television industry with the serial Paddu, written and directed by Gurbir Singh Grewal in 1998. He went on to work in popular television serials such as Sarhad, Lori, Gaoundi Dharti, Sirnaave, Man Jeetey Jag Jeet, Channo Chan Vargi, Professor Money Plant, Jugnu Hazir Hai, Jugnu Mast Mast, Padam Paria, Kankaal, Aaste and Pagdandian.

With the passage of time, Dhillon ventured into the Punjabi film industry and ever since then, there has been no turning back. He has an array of blockbuster movies to his credit such as Carry on Jatta, Vekh Barattan Challiyan, Mar Gaye Oye Loko, and Naukar Vahuti da to name a few.

Gurpreet Ghuggi:

An Indian actor, comedian, and politician, Gurpreet Ghuggi dons various hats. However, he started his professional journey with theater and eventually, the good old television industry.  Ghuggi began his career by acting in theatre in the early 1990s, after which he had recurring roles in television series such as Ronak Mela and the soap opera Parchhaven.

Ghuggi gained international public recognition with comedic leading roles through his videos Ghuggi Junction (2003) and Ghuggi Shoo Mantar (2004), before laying the foundation stone of his film career by starring as Patwari Jhilmil Singh in Asa Nu Maan Watna Da (2004). His Punjabi movies like Carry On Jatta (2012) and Ardaas (2015) have been acclaimed by the critics and the audiences alike.

BN Sharma:

An actor to reckon with prolific dialogue delivery skills and a note-worthy acting acumen, BN Sharma started his professional journey with a Punjabi soap, Jeb Katre on Jalandhar Doordarshan and comedy serial, Flop Show which fetched him many offers for venturing into the Punjabi film industry. Sharma has played a pivotal role in famous Punjabi movies like Mahaul Theek Hai, Jatt and Juliet and Carry On Jatta.

Babbu Mann, a huge name in the world of Punjabi music, surprisingly turned a music teacher for young singer Shipra Goyal.

Shipra Goyal who was practicing for her song Saah Chalde at a music studio met Babbu Mann there who gave her some precious little lessons on singing.

The video of this recording was shared on Babbu Mann’s Instagram as well from where it has now got viral among the netizens.

Shipra Goyal, a talented singer from Punjab, recently released a song named Saah Chalde which is receiving a good enough response from her fans.

In the viral video, you can see Babbu Mann sharing his expertise with Shipra. Babbu Mann’s experience comes from his highly successful singing career of about two decades.

Babbu Mann, who’s a household name in Punjab, achieved the pinnacle of success through songs like Mitran Di Chhatri, Saun Di Jhadi, Sharratta, Pind Paera Lagda and many more.

It won’t be wrong to say that Babbu Mann’s contribution to the world of Punjabi music shall be remembered by generations to come.

Though Babbu Mann has given many a super-hit in his music career, but unfortunately, his career as an actor never really took off after Hashar. His first film was Hawaayein released in 2003. He’s also done films like Ekam- the son of soil in which the female lead was Mandy Takhar. Ekam was Mandy Takhar’s first Punjabi movie. 

However, despite not giving many hits, Babbu Mann keeps doing Punjabi movies for his ardent fans who expect him to act in movies on a regular basis.

Babbu Mann has starred in films like Baaz and Banjara. Banjara was Babbu Mann’s last movie and was released in December 2018.

In Banjara, he played a triple role of that of a truck driver. The film revolved around the life of this truck driver spanning three generations.

Bathinda Boy Will Sing In Kangana Ranaut and Jassie Gill’s PANGA

A young boy from Bathinda, Sunny who used to make his living doing ‘Boot Polish’ will now sing a song in Jassie Gill and Kangana Ranaut’s upcoming Bollywood movie, Panga. 

Kangana Ranaut and Jassie Gill’s upcoming Bollywood movie – PANGA – has a number of reasons for being popular in Punjab even before its release. Besides having a Punjabi lead actor, Jassie Gill in it, Panga is also going to feature a song sung by Bathinda’s young singing talent, Sunny, who’s made his name by winning a Reality singing Show. 

This is not the first time though that Sunny will be doing a playback in a Bollywood movie. Even before Panga, Sunny’s voice was given a chance in Emraan Hashmi’s film ‘Rom Rom’. 

However, getting a chance to sing in a top Bollywood heroine like Kangana Ranaut is certainly a very big break for Sunny. 

Before participating in an Indian singing reality TV show, Sunny used to earn his and his family’s living by doing odd jobs in Bathinda. He used to polish boots of passers-by and along with that, he would also practice his singing. 

Although the name of the song that Sunny will sing hasn’t been revealed as yet, but the movie Panga releases on 24th January. 

Kangana Ranaut’s Panga’s trailer has received a humongous response from the audience already and so has its title track – Le Panga. 

Now we hope Sunny’s song for Panga will also emerge as a chartbuster and give him many more opportunities to showcase his talent in Bollywood and the world-over.

After hooking up the audience with the ‘pre-teaser’, the team of Ik Sandhu Hunda Si – Gippy Grewal and Humble Motion Pictures’ first Punjabi movie in 2020 –  have doled out its Teaser now, which has many impressive elements in it to grip the audience’s attention further and make them curious about the film, in general. 

Ik Sandhu Hunda Si Releases On 28th February 2020

Depicting the life of a student named ‘Sandhu’, this Rakesh Mehta directorial seems to be a proper action thriller that has a meaningful content to back it. The teaser shows that the lead character has some past love story which has made him fiercely strong to protect his loved ones at any cost. 

The tagline: “Eh kahani kalli Sandhu de pyaar di hi nahi yaari di vi hai.. duniya dekhugi‬” also hints at “friendship” being a strong theme of the movie as well. 

The teaser is sleek and fully action-packed. The action director of the film is Sham Kaushal, who is a well-known action director in Bollywood and also happens to be actor Vicky Kaushal’s father.

Brilliantly edited, Ik Sandhu Hunda Si’s teaser has all the potential to hold the audience attention till its trailer’s release.

A glimpse of the heroine Neha Sharma in the teaser gives an impression that even the female lead isn’t added in the movie just as a glamour-quotient but in fact, has some very strong role in it.

Jassie Gill calls Gippy Grewal as “pure businessman”

Jassie Gill is a big name in both the music and film industry of Punjab. The man behind songs like Lancer, Laden, Bapu Jimidar, Allah Ve and several others has also appeared in Punjabi movies as a male lead.

His most notable Punjabi movies are High End Yaarian and Mr and Mrs 420 series.

But Jassie Gill is in the news lately for his upcoming Bollywood movie, Panga, with none other than the top heroine of Hindi film industry and national award winner, Kangana Ranaut.

Recently during its promotions, Jassie Gill appeared on a TV channel wherein Satinder Satti interviewed him.

In one of the rapid fire questions that were thrown at him, Satinder asked him to give a word for Gippy Grewal.

Jassie Gill’s reply to her on being asked about Gippy Grewal was “pure businessman”.

Now we’ll have to wait and watch as to in which context exactly Jassie Gill defined Gippy Grewal with this term but one thing that we can say for sure looking at the promo of Satinder Satti’s new interview show is that the entire episode is going to be a lot of fun.

Both Satti and Jassie seem to have gelled perfectly with each other.

We’re eager to know what other terms Jassie Gill uses for other names thrown at him by Satti.

Sufna: Ammy Virk Says Its Part of Qismat Series

Sufna starring Ammy Virk and Tania in the lead roles is an upcoming Punjabi romantic movie that releases on Valentine’s Day i.e. 14th February 2020.

Ammy Virk, who makes sure to give something special to his fans, whether it’s his music or movies, seems to be really pepped about his upcoming Punjabi movie Sufna in which he will star as the love interest of Tania for the first time.

Though Ammy Virk has worked with Tania earlier in Qismat which released in September 2018, but in that film, Tania played the second lead and Sargun Mehta was film’s main female lead.

Now when the audience was awaiting the some news on Qismat’s sequel, Ammy Virk and Qismat and Sufna’s director, Jagdeep Sidhu dropped another news for his fans which left them confused a bit.

Ammy Virk and Jagdeep Sidhu shared an image with the name of another film titled ‘Lekh’ a few days ago – Rreleasing on 18th September 2020 – the same date when Qismat 2’s was scheduled to release.

Anyways, now whether Lekh is a completely new movie or Qismat renamed, is something that’ll be revealed later. But while sharing that post Ammy Virk and Jagdeep Sidhu also mentioned the name of SUFNA.

In fact, they wrote that after ‘Qismat and Sufna, Lekh is a new film in the “series”’. (Read Ammy’s Instagram post here)

So, that confirms that SUFNA starring Ammy Virk and Tania is actually a part of a series that begun with Qismat.

Here we would also like to mention that while Qismat was produced by Shri Narottam Ji Productions, Sufna is being produced by another production house altogether named Panj Paani Films.

The writer and director of Sufna will be Jagdeep Sidhu.

Himanshi Khurana Says Grudges Against Shehnaz Going Away

Himanshi Khurana, who was a part of Bigg Boss’ 13th season, has talked about her controversy with Shehnaz Gill once again, in an interview and said that now her grudges against Shehnaz Gill are gradually sliding away.

Himanshi KHurana who entered Bigg Boss house last year on 3rd November as the rival of Shehnaz Gill, came out of the same by 10th December. Though her journey in Bigg Boss’ house was a short one, yet it left a lot of impact in the existing equations of the house.

Even Himanshi Khurana feels happy that even after a month of her leaving, many housemates still talk about her positively.

In an interview to Indian Express, Himanshi said that slowly her ideas and opinions about Shehnaz Gill are changing, as she’s started to watch the Bigg Boss from audience perspective.

Himanshi said that now she’s begun to understand Shehnaz. “She doesn’t have stable thoughts. One minute she says something and hurts someone while the next, she herself is hurt.”

In this interview, Himanshi also said that she liked when Shehnaz said to another housemate that she’d rather have a competitor like Himanshi (who’s Shehnaz Gill’s level) than someone like Mahira.

Now we hope Shehanz Gill also experiences a change of heart as far as her opinion about Himanshi is concerned. We’ll get to know about it only when she comes out of the Bigg Boss house, which in this season, has got extended to five more weeks and might have a finale around mid of Feb 2020.

Talking about Asim Riaz, Himanshi Khurana said that the more Salman Khan will scold him, the stronger he’ll get. Himanshi Khurana also said that she openly decided to support Asim as she knew everyone else including the TV channel will support and protect the image of Sidharth Shukla only.

Shahid Kapoor Injured In Mohali – Jersey Shoot Discontinued

Shahid Kapoor, who’s been shooting for his upcoming Bollywood movie, Jersey in Chandigarh, Mohali has been reportedly badly injured at PCA Stadium.

For past few weeks, Shahid Kapoor has been shooting in Punjab for the role of his upcoming Bollywood movie, Jersey which is the Hindi remake of a South-Indian film by the same and based on the life of cricketer.

In the same movie, his father and versatile actor Pankaj Kapoor is also featuring as his cricket coach. While the duo was shooting in Chandigarh, their Punjabi fans were really excited and meeting them on the sets of Jersey quite often.

However, according to some reports, Shahid Kapoor got badly injured during the shoot of the movie at PCA stadium, Mohali.

Sources say that it so happened that he was giving a batting shot for the movie when a ball hit him hard directly on his lower lip, even though he was wearing a helmet.

The injury left him bleeding profusely, and in no time Shahid was rushed to a private hospital nearby.

The injury is so deep that even the shoot of Jersey has been halted and no news as to when it will begin again has been given by the makers.

Sources even said that hearing about the news of Shahid Kapoor’s accident, his wife Meera Kapoor also reached Chandigarh on the same day.

While we wish Shahid Kapoor a speedy recovery, we would like to inform our readers that Jersey is a real-life story based on the life of an Indian cricketer, who despite being immensely talented, struggled a lot to make his place in the national Indian cricket team.

Another cricket based film that is going to release in 2020 is Ranveer Singh starrer 83 based on the 1983 world-cup victory story of Indian cricket team.

The film also stars Punjabi actors like Ammy Virk and Harrdy Sandhu. Punjabi actress Wamiqa Gabbi will also star in 83 and play the role of one of the cricketers’ wife.

Harmanjeet has been blessed with a baby boy on 10th January 2020. 

He shared this news on his instagram account and also mentioned his wife’s name – Amrit. While sharing the news Harmanjeet penned down a detailed emotional post on the life-giving process that a woman undergoes while becoming mother. 

On his Instagram post, actor Ammy Virk, Gurshabd and Jazz Dhami also commented congratulatory messages to him.

ਨਦਰਿ ਹੀ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ ਜਦ ਕੁੱਖਾਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਰੱਬ ਦੀ ਸੰਪੂਰਨ ਓਟ ਹਿਲਜੁਲ ਕਰਦੀ ਹੈ, ਕੁਦਰਤਾਂ ਦਾ ਅਕੱਥ ਚਾਨਣ ਲਿਸ਼ਕਦਾ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਮਨੁੱਖਤਾ ਦਾ ਬੱਚਾ ਗਰਭ ਦੇ ਦਲੇਰ ਮੰਡਲਾਂ ‘ਚੋਂ ਆਪਣੀ ਚਮੜੀ ‘ਤੇ ਨਵੇਂ ਕਾਰਜਾਂ ਦੀ ਚਮਕ ਲਿਖਵਾ ਕੇ ਇਸ ਦੁਨੀਆ ‘ਚ ਆਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ । ਮਾਂਵਾਂ ਦੀ ਪੀੜ , ਪੀੜ ਕਦੋਂ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ ? ਉਹ ਤਾਂ ਅਣਗਾਹੀ ਧਰਤੀ ‘ਤੇ ਉੱਸਰੇ ਅਕਾਲ ਬੁੰਗਿਆਂ ‘ਚ ਨਜ਼ਰਾਂ ਘੁਮਾ ਰਹੀ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ । ਖੀਵੀ ਹੋ ਰਹੀ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ । ਆਪਣੀ ਛਾਤੀ ‘ਚ ਸਮਿਆਂ ਦਾ ਕੋਈ ਵੱਡਾ ਸੱਚ ਉਤਾਰ ਰਹੀ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ । ਸਮੇਂ ਦੇ ਇੱਕ ਖ਼ਾਸ ਬਿੰਦੂ ‘ਤੇ ਕੋਈ ਦਬਾਅ ਪਿਆ । ਵੇਲ਼ਾ ਤਸਦੀਕ ਹੋਇਆ ਅਤੇ ਤੇਰੀਆਂ ਤਮਾਮ ਉਮਰ ਦੀਆਂ ਕ੍ਰਿਆਵਾਂ ਨਿਸ਼ਚਿਤ ਹੋਈਆਂ। ਮੇਰੀਆਂ ਅਤੇ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਦੀਆਂ ਨਜ਼ਰਾਂ ਜਿਹੜੀਆਂ ਵਕਤ ਦੇ ਨਵੇਂ-ਪੁਰਾਣੇ ਮੋੜਾਂ ਉੱਤੇ ਟਿਕਦੀਆਂ ਰਹੀਆਂ, ਸਾਡੀਆਂ ਸੋਚਾਂ, ਸਾਡੇ ਵਿਚਾਰ, ਸਾਡੀ ਸੁਰਤ ਅਤੇ ਸਾਡੇ ਨਾਲ਼ ਜੁੜੀਆਂ ਹਰ ਪ੍ਰਕਾਰ ਦੀਆਂ ਬਣਤਰਾਂ ਜੋ ਸੂਖ਼ਮ-ਸਥੂਲ ਸਭ ਦਾਇਰਿਆਂ ‘ਚ ਵਿਚਰੀਆਂ, ਉਹਨਾਂ ਸਭਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਸਾਂਝੇ ਅਤੇ ਮਿਲੇ-ਜੁਲ਼ੇ ਪਰਛਾਂਵੇ ਨੇ ਤੇਰਾ ਰੂਪ ਧਾਰਿਆ ਹੈ । ਅਸੀਂ ਕਿਸੇ ਨਵੀਂ ਸਾਹਾਂ ਦੀ ਲੜੀ ਅਤੇ ਕਿਸੇ ਨਵੀਂ ਤਰਤੀਬ ਨੂੰ ਸਰੀਰ ਬਖ਼ਸ਼ਣ ਦਾ ਜ਼ਰੀਆ ਬਣੇ ਹਾਂ । ਰੱਬ ਤੇਰੀ ਰੂਹ ਦੇ ਮਿੱਥੇ ਕਾਰਜਾਂ ‘ਚ ਸ਼ਰੀਕ ਰਹੇ । ਤੇਰੇ ਜਨਮ-ਦਿਨ ਵਾਲ਼ੀ ਪੂਰਨਮਾਸ਼ੀ ਸਦਾ ਤੇਰੇ ਅੰਗ-ਸੰਗ ਸਹਾਈ ਰਹੇ । ਘਰ ਦੇ ਵਿਹੜੇ ‘ਤੇ ਫੈਲੇ ਟਾਹਣ ਹੁਣ ਤੈਨੂੰ ਵੀ ਛਾਂਵਾਂ ਕਰਨਗੇ । ਧੁੱਪਾਂ ਹੁਣ ਤੇਰੇ ਵੱਲ ਵੀ ਝਾਕਿਆ ਕਰਨਗੀਆਂ । ਮਨੁੱਖਤਾ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਪੁਰਖਿਆਂ ਦੀ ਵੀ ਕਦਰਦਾਨ ਹੈ ਜਿਹੜੇ ਕਦੇ ਜੰਗਲਾਂ-ਗੁਫ਼ਾਵਾਂ ਦੇ ਭਰਵੇਂ ਮਾਹੌਲ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਹੱਡਾਂ ‘ਚ ਰਚਾ ਕੇ ਸਾਨੂੰ ਸਾਡਾ ਮੂੰਹ-ਮੱਥਾ ਦੇ ਗਏ । ਨਦਰਿ ਹੀ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ ਜਦ ਕੁੱਖਾਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਰੱਬ ਦੀ ਸੰਪੂਰਨ ਓਟ ਹਿਲਜੁਲ ਕਰਦੀ ਹੈ । ਵੇਲਿਆਂ ਦੀ ਤਰਲਤਾ, ਇਰਾਦਿਆਂ ਦੀ ਠੋਸਤਾ, ਇਸ਼ਕ ਦੀ ਸੰਘਣਤਾ ਅਤੇ ਮੁਹੱਬਤ ਦੀ ਮਹਿਰਾਬ ਦੇ ਮੱਥੇ ਲਿਸ਼ਕਦਾ ਤੂੰ ਨਿੱਕਾ ਜਿਹਾ । ਤੂੰ ਸਾਡਾ ਸੂਰਜ । ਅਰਦਾਸ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਾਂ , ਅਗੰਮ-ਅਪਾਰ ਖ਼ੁਦਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਤੇਰੇ ਸਾਹਾਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਲਰਜ਼ੇ । ਗੁਰੂਆਂ, ਪੀਰਾਂ, ਫ਼ਕੀਰਾਂ, ਆਸ਼ਕਾਂ-ਦਰਵੇਸ਼ਾਂ ਦੇ ਸਜਦੇ ਵਿੱਚ ਤੇਰਾ ਮੱਥਾ ਝੁਕੇ । ਤੇਰੇ ਹੱਥ ਜੁੜਨ ਪਾਵਨ-ਪੰਕਤੀਆਂ ਦੀ ਹਜ਼ੂਰੀ ਵਿੱਚ । ਅਰਦਾਸ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਾਂ, ਨੀਤਾਂ ਦਾਨ ਦਿੱਤਿਆਂ, ਸੇਵਾ ਕੀਤਿਆਂ ਭਰਦੀਆਂ ਰਹਿਣ । ਸਰਬ-ਸਰਬੱਤ ਇਕਾਂਤ ਦਾ ਅਮੀਰ ਅਕੀਦਾ ਤੇਰੇ ਵਿੱਚੋਂ ਦੀ ਗੁਜ਼ਰੇ….. …ਪੁੱਤਰ ! ਅਸੀਂ ਤੇਰਾ ਨਾਮ ‘ ਇਕਾਂਤ ‘ ਰੱਖਦੇ ਹਾਂ । ਇਕਾਂਤ ਸਿੰਘ । ਤੇਰੇ ਮਾਪੇ ਹਰਮਨ ਅਤੇ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ 10/01/2020 ????
