Whether it was Bambukat, a film on a motorcycle with a strong social message embedded in it or Lahoriye – the first cross-border love story in Ballewood or Golak Bugni Bank Te Batua – the first film on demonetisation, or the most recent one – ASHKE, a Punjabi film with Bhangra as its backdrop, the “Boyz” led by Karaj Gill are always ready to roll out something new.
Now this production house has released the first look of their upcoming project. Titled ‘Car Reebna Wali’, the film as the name suggests shall tell a tale of a car. Written by Amberdeep Singh, it is still not known who will be directing the film. We assume that the starcast would include the name of Amrinder Gill for sure.

But there’s one man who’s never tired of giving something new to Punjabi cinema always, no matter what the outcome. Yes, the fearless producer we’re talking about is Gippy Grewal, who under his brand Humble Motion Pictures, is all set to give a new kind of fantasy film to Ballewood – a movie based on ‘life-after-death’ – Mar Gaye Oye Loko.
The movie, whose official trailer and title track has already taken the social media by storm, is said to be a ‘complete’ film; with the perfect amalgamation of comedy, suspense, romance etc.
“Mar Gaye Oye Loko is basically a story-driven film. While comedy is the common thread throughout the movie, it also has a tinge of romance, suspense and human emotions,” says the writer & producer of the movie, Gippy Grewal.
He further highlighted, “In the past, our industry has had movies which are out & out comedy, but Mar Gaye Oye Loko takes comedy a notch higher, with its storyline hailing its inspiration from life after death to a large extent.”
The title of the movie Mar Gaye Oye Loko comes from the fact that the characters have encounters with death quite often and it translates how life might be after death.
“Ever since childhood, we have heard about some pre-conceived notions of how life would be after we die and that’s exactly what has kept me thinking since quite a long time now. As the writer of the movie, I gave the wings of creativity to my thoughts and translated the idea of life after death in the most intriguing yet comic manner,” smiled Gippy.
“I think we Punjabis have always carved our own entity and we will persist to do so even after we die. So, the movie is all about Punjabis celebrating the life even after death. I am affirmative that the audiences will love it,” he concluded with a wink.
The movie stars Gippy Grewal, Binnu Dhillon, Sapna Pabbi, Jaswinder Bhalla, Karamjit Anmol, B.N. Sharma, Raghveer Boli, Gurpreet Ghuggi, Jaggi Singh, Hobby Dhaliwal, Baninder Bunny, and Gurpreet Bhangu. It is directed by Simarjit Singh and will release on August 31, 2018.
It has been an underlying truth of the Ballewood industry that no comedy film is ever complete without the takia-kalams and the comic presence of Jaswinder Bhalla. So, with the view to make Ballewood’s first one-of-its-kind fantasy film, Mar Gaye Oye Loko a complete package for everyone alike, the movie features Jaswinder Bhalla in a special appearance in the shoes of Karamraj.

So, with the view to make Ballewood’s first one-of-its-kind fantasy film, Mar Gaye Oye Loko a complete package for everyone alike, the movie features Jaswinder Bhalla in a special appearance in the shoes of Karamraj.
As unusual as it may sound, but this ‘special appearance’ is not very rare in the movie; for a majority aspect of the plot revolves around his role.
“My role as the Karamraj is to maintain the records of the dead & alive up in the heaven. The storyline draws a fine line of similarity between how things function on earth and up there. We have elections, we have nepotism, we have confusions and what not!,” smiles Mr. Bhalla.
Speaking about the greatest mess surrounding which the plot revolves, Mr. Bhalla quips, “The storyline keeps the readers on the hook of laughter & craziness when Yamdoot brings Gippy Grewal instead of Binnu Dhillon and the mess continues throughout the movie.”
We further talk to Mr. Bhalla about his experience on working with Gippy Grewal in the shoes of a writer & producer, to which he smiles firmly and says, “Gippy is a versatile artist who knows how to excel in every hat that he dons. As a writer, I think he has done an amazing job because Mar Gaye Oye Loko is certainly the first one-of-its-kind fantasy film of the industry, and I am affirmative that it will be loved by the audiences.”
He adjoins, “Same goes on his expertise as a producer. Throughout the shoot of the film, Gippy always maintained absolute professionalism and ensured that every artist was happy & satisfied. Although my role being a special appearance had a tentative shoot of two days, due to his time management and professional approach, my shoot was wrapped in one and a half days. He is a very systematic & professional producer and there’s a long way to go!”
With just a few days left for the movie to hit the silver screen, we cannot stop marking our calendar for August 31, 2018. Mar Gaye Oye Loko is directed by Simarjit Singh and it features Gippy Grewal, Binnu Dhillon, Sapna Pabbi, Jaswinder Bhalla, Karamjit Anmol, B.N. Sharma, Raghveer Boli, Gurpreet Ghuggi, Jaggi Singh, Hobby Dhaliwal, Baninder Bunny, and Gurpreet Bhangu.
While Gippy Grewal is currently promoting his home production – Mar Gaye Oye Loko – with all gung-ho, he has been hitting the headlines for several other reasons too. Apart from recently, Punjab CM Captain Amarinder Singh selecting him for his campaign against drugs, Gippy has also reportedly, sorted all pre-production work for the sequel of last year blockbuster hit – Manje Bistre.

Apart from recently, Punjab CM Captain Amarinder Singh selecting him for his campaign against drugs, Gippy has also reportedly, sorted all pre-production work for the sequel of last year blockbuster hit – Manje Bistre.
According to reports, Gippy Grewal almost finalised all locations for Manje Bistre 2. In June, the star also took it to his social media handle to share a video, wherein he, with his gang of boys, were checking out different locations for the song shoot of ‘Manje Bistre 2’.
Directed by Baljit Singh Deo, 2017 released ‘Manje Bistre’ had Sonam Bajwa and Gippy Grewal in the lead. However, the sequel will have the Bambukat kudi – Simi Grewal as Gippy’s leading lady.
The movie was a blockbuster hit at the box-office and thus, a second scoop of the same is something the audiences will certainly look up to. According to the reports, ‘Manje Bistre 2’ will hit the theatres next year in April.

It would definitely be an understatement to call Gippy Grewal one of the most-loved Punjabis across the globe. He dons so many hats that it is really difficult to unify him under one profession. His journey which started as a singer many years ago today spans its expertise in being an actor, writer, director and producer; making him an indispensable gem of the Ballewood industry.

Gippy Grewal has an array of awards & accolades to his credit; he has always been appreciated for his indomitable will & zeal to experiment new things and his upcoming Indian-punjabi movie, Mar Gaye Oye Loko stands testament to the same. Now ahead of his upcoming film- Mar Gaye Oye Loko, which he has not only written himself but produced as well, Gippy shares some of his thoughts about acting this part of his life.
“I think being an actor myself, I am able to justify my job as a producer better. A normal producer thinks just the way a producer thinks – keeping in mind the financial aspects of everything, however being an actor, I treat my actors just the same way I like to be treated when I am working on someone else’s shoots. I also know that most of the artistes these days have enormous time constraints so they need to be free from the shoots within a stipulated time. That’s why I am extremely punctual as a producer and believe a lot in preparations months in advance. The only reason being that just because of production delays, an artiste must not suffer,” he says.
As far as Mar Gaye Oye Loko is concerned, Gippy quips, “We all have grown up to hear stories about how life is after death but, no one has really seen it. I have always fantasized about how it would be and how we Punjabis will make our own entity even up there and that’s exactly what translates in this story-driven movie. It is a complete package for everyone alike,” said Gippy.
He further added, “The idea of this came to me before Ardaas; I had thought of the plot, I just had to work on the script and then, Baljit paaji came up with Manje Bistre and I really liked the idea of promoting our rich culture & heritage; so I went ahead with it. For all this while, Mar Gaye Oye Loko never took a backseat as it was always on my mind. I even got an offer for making it a Bollywood movie, but I wanted to produce it under the banner of Humble Motion Pictures. So, here we are!”
Gippy informed that Mar Gaye Oye Loko was shot in a mere time span of a month at different locations across Punjab. However, it is a very expensive film. “Making a fantasy film is truly a cumbersome process; since it involves a lot of pre-production setup and post-production editing. However, producing this movie was once in a lifetime experience,” he said.
The movie will hit the silver screen on August 31, 2018. It is directed by Simarjit Singh and features Gippy Grewal, Binnu Dhillon, Sapna Pabbi, Jaswinder Bhalla, Karamjit Anmol, B.N.
