Namita Jain is a multifaceted personality, wellness expert and a nutritionist. She has authored over 10 books on health and fitness, which encompasses complete well-being for adults, children and senior citizens. Celebrities like Deepika Padukone, Hema Malini, Sunil Shetty, Saina Nehwal, Parizaad Zorabian and Raageshwari Loomba have endorsed her books.
Q. How did you develop your interest in health and fitness?
A. Ever since childhood, I had keen interest in swimming and water sports which eventually annexed my interest in health and fitness. At that time, I felt that there was lack of appropriate guidance in this field. So, I decided to mentor others on the same.
Q. What are the set of qualifications under your belt?
A. I have done various courses from the American College of Sports Medicine, the American Council of Exercise, the Aerobics & Fitness Association of America and the Pilates UK institute.
Q. Tell us a few fitness tips that women should include in their fitness regime?
A. Woman should resort to food planning. They either starve or binge. They should see themselves as a priority, and make time for themselves.
Q. Do you think that the north region is succumbed with obesity?
A. No, not really. These days’ people in the north region are getting very health conscious. I feel that Punjabis are not the way they are stereotyped.
Q. How can we plan a Punjabi diet that is less fattening?
A. The Punjabi diet is truly healthy. Like the chutneys are rich in protein, chole are a great source of energy giving food. So, I won’t say a no to Punjabi diet, but you can substitute roasted papads or avoid making paranthas completely dipped in oil or ghee. Also, you can accompany salads with your meal.
Q. How do you keep yourself fit?
A. I plan my schedule early in the morning, and never omit fruits and fitness activities, no matter how busy I am. I love to do yoga, aerobics and dance.
Q. What is the animated film ‘Dining etiquettes’ that you recently released?
A. The Dining etiquette film is being taken across to schools and educational institutes across India. This social initiative aims to impart fundamental knowledge on table manners and etiquette to kids and adults across all ages.
Q. Why did you choose Chandigarh for the launch of your high end cookware range called ‘kischo innochef’?
A. Chandigarh is a city to love. It is the hub of Punjab, and I really feel that people here are living their life to the fullest. So, for the launch of my high end cookware range, there couldn’t be a better city with such an alluring soul and lifestyle.
Namita is currently a Clinical Wellness Expert at Bombay Hospital. An additional feather in her illustrious cap – she has been chosen as the lead expert for FSSAI (Food Safety and Standards Authority of India).
