When the mainstream producers warm up to the idea of creating meaningful films, it is a good news for the industry as a whole, for it not only offers something different to the audience but at the same time, goes a long way in encouraging budding filmmakers to work on their dream projects.
White Hill Production, the leading production house of Punjab, came up with their First YOUTUBE Short film – ‘Shukar Datteya’ starring Rana Ranbir and Jarnail Singh in the lead roles yesterday. Meticulously packed in just 6:15 minutes, Shukar Dattea epitomizes the wonderful power of storytelling, which if executed well, can create a huge impact on the audience’s psyche in no time!
Having beautifully captured Punjab’s rural landscape in the first few frames, director Janjot Singh’s Shukar Dattea takes us on a short bus trip – a normal day activity for any passenger, but a spiritually stimulating journey for Jarnail Singh , a preacher at a Gurudwara in Manavpur.
The other lead character, Rana Ranbir, is a light-hearted bus conductor, who cannot help singing the Lord’s praises at every little opportunity he gets while doing his daily chores on the bus. He can be best described as a ‘karma yogi’ who may not always be able to find time to visit the Gurudwaras but his conscience is clear as crystal. However, today other than ‘conducting’ the usual bus operations, this bus conductor decides to conduct an unusual “experiment” on Jarnail Singh, who is known for his spiritual discourses at his hometown of Manavpur.
What does he do in this experiment? Does he get the results as expected? Does Jarnail Singh pass this little test that he had to go through without his permission, without his knowledge? What will he do in this strange situation that catches him unaware?
Watch this wonderfully thought out, brilliantly executed and deeply moving short tale of an unforgettable interaction between two men, and get a glimpse into the persona of the man who can be best described as ‘Asli Sardaarji’.
