15th August was a big day for Indian cinema. Be it Bollywood or our Ballewood, the producers wanted to capitalise on the National Holiday (Independence Day) as much as possible. With two Hindi patriotic films – Gold and Satyamev Jayate releasing on the same day, it was speculated that Mr and Mrs 420 Returns (the first Punjabi film to release on a Wednesday) might have a tough time standing firm against the two Bollywood biggies.
However, the tables were turned completely on 15th, when Mr and Mrs 420 Returns not just smashed the box-office with a whopping Rs 1.6 crore (Gross, All India) but also disrupted the business of both Satyamev Jayate and Gold.
For the two Hindi films, according to BoxofficeIndia.com, the best collections have come in Mumbai and Delhi / UP while East Punjab lost around 50 lakhs nett due to two Punjabi films Mr & Mrs 420 Returns and Dakuaan Da Munda taking out a big chunk of that market not only for Gold but Satyameva Jayate too. Mr and Mrs 420 Returns, which is the sequel of 2014 superhit Mr and Mrs 420 is produced by Rrupaali Gupta from Friday Russh Motion Pictures and has been receiving awesome reviews from both the critics and the masses. Says the producer, “With Mr and Mrs 420 Returns’ shows running houseful allover Punjab, I believe it’s a win not only for us but for the whole Punjabi cinema. We should all be proud of the fact that our films are successfully competing with the national movies.”
While expressing his happiness, Films’ writer Naresh Kathooria posted this on his Facebook account:
It may be noted that Mr and Mrs 420 Returns had to face competition from not just Gold and Satyamev Jayate but also from Dakuaan Da Munda, released last Friday, which too had taken the box-office by storm. Had the film released all alone, it might have had an even BIGGER opening.
Anyways, with a strong word-of-mouth and rave reviews that the film has been receiving, we believe Mr and Mrs 420 Returns will go a long way ahead!
