Upcoming Punjabi film ‘Kala Shah Kala’ marks Sargun Mehta’s comeback to her home turf Zee. She had started her acting journey with Zee TV’s show 12/24 Karol Bagh exactly a decade ago. After proving her acting mettle on the television, Sargun moved to the silver screen with Punjabi films and has given hits like Angrej, Love Punjab and Lahoriye, and Qismat recently.

While talking about her first collaboration with Binnu Dhillon in Kala Shah Kala, Sargun told us in an exclusive interview that she feels that she was always destined to play the role of ‘Pammi’ in this film.

She said, “When, Amarjit Singh wrote ‘Kala Shah Kala’, interestingly, he narrated it to me before anybody else. I had really liked the story but could not say yes because I had already committed to some other projects. There’s an incident from during the shoot of Jindua which I recall now and realise that this was meant to be my role all along. I was asked by a fan what’s my next project. I had signed nothing so I just said ‘Next film???…’ and suddenly Kala Shah Kala song started playing in the background. I still have that video with me. I may have realised it quite late but I was meant to play Pammi all along”.

“You see, some seven years ago, when I was still working on television; I was offered a show on a leading channel. I had to play the lead in this show which had similar concept, like ‘Kala Shah Kala’. In fact we had also shot the pilot for the show but the things could not materialise eventually due to some date issues. Now, when I look back at it, this story has had some significance in my career all along”, she added.

‘Kala Shah Kala’ is written and directed by Amarjit Singh and is set to release on 14th February 2019.
