Mayor unveils permanent ‘RRR Centre’ at Sector 17, Chandigarh

by IAP Network

Starting from June 8th, individuals can donate their reusable household items at the newly inaugurated permanent RRR Centre in Sector 17, Chandigarh. The center was officially opened by Sh. Anup Gupta, City Mayor, alongside Sh. Kanwarjit Singh Rana, Senior Deputy Mayor, councilors, MCC officers, Market Welfare Associations’ representatives, and prominent members of the community.

Featuring separate shops for clothing, books, shoes, and electronic items, the RRR store will operate from Tuesday to Sunday, from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm, remaining closed on Mondays.

During the center’s inauguration, the Mayor highlighted that the Municipal Corporation had previously set up 35 temporary RRR centers across the city, where residents donated their reusable household articles from May 20th to June 5th, 2023. The MCC then proceeded to clean, refurbish, and upcycle the donated items, which will soon be available for sale at the “Rupee stores.” The restored items will be sold at affordable prices, ensuring that reusable household items in good condition are not wasted but instead reused.

The Mayor emphasized that only high-quality and usable items would be accepted for donation, including clothes, shoes, books/stationery, plastic items, crockery, toys, e-waste, wooden items, and furniture. These articles will also be collected through MCC’s ‘Swachh Sawari’ – RRR on Wheels initiative. Self Help Groups and sanitation workers from MCC have been assigned to manage the day-to-day operations of the RRR center and the Rupee stores.

The Mayor expressed confidence that this project would strengthen the principles of waste management – Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle. It will contribute to the overall zero-waste ecosystem under the Swachh Bharat Mission-Urban 2.0, fostering a sustainable and clean environment.
