Sidhu Moose Wala To Stand Among Farmers In Protest, Says ‘I am a farmer too’

by Monita Sharma

While on one hand, politicians from different political parties are laying down their differences aside to show solidarity for the farmers after the Indian government passed three crucial agriculture ordinances, artistes from Punjabi entertainment industry are joining hands too as most of them come from farmers’ families themselves.

Sidhu Moose Wala, who was being trolled by certain people for keeping a mum silence on the issue, went live on his Instagram page yesterday and said a number of things, which show that he too, totally understands the pain that the farmers across the state are going through.

He said, he’s a farmer himself and so are his father and grandfather. In a startling revelation, he also said that he held a protest in Patiala on the issue and wanted to sit himself in the ‘dharna’, however, the organisers said that they couldn’t arrange for Moose Wala’s security there.

Now the ‘So High’ singer has told his fans that he shall sit on the ‘Dharna’ in Mansa next.

Sidhu Moose Wala also said that despite being an artiste, he does farming daily because he is attached to his soil, his motherland. So, he said that he shall do anything to take this fight forward as it is about saving the grace of the very people who have allowed to become what he is today.

What are the protests about?

The Agriculture Bill 2020 was passed recently by the Indian government but the farmers across the nation are in not in agreement with the ordinances since they think that these will hurt the small farmers big time. Hence they are now raising their voice and have even called for a ‘Bharat Band’ on September 25.

To show solidarity, Punjabi entertainment industry’s singers, writers and actors have united and celebrities like Diljit Dosanjh, Himanshi Khurana, Ammy Virk, Binnu Dhillon, Gurnam Bhullar and many others have shared the poster of 25th September on their social media profiles.

The poster has a message written in Punjabi and says that all are standing in solidarity with the farmers. Further, anyone who feels that the farm bills are justified, must come and talk to the farmers.

It maybe recalled that to favour the farmers’ protests, Ranjit Bawa and Himanshi Khurana even went ahead and run down Kangana Ranaut on Twitter in the last few days when Kangana equated farmers’ protests to CAA protests and called those opposing the bill as ‘terrorists’.

She later justified her Tweet by saying that her comments were taken in a wrong context. However, that didn’t stop her from blocking Bawa on Twitter.

Himanshi too, wrote to Kangana that even though she saw her as an inspiration once, but now Kangana is completely wrong and she must understand that farmers are not fighting for any luxury – but just to get three meals of the day.

The fact that all the top Punjabi artistes have come forward to express anger against the bill and solidarity with the farmers, certainly show that there’s still a lot of unity left in the Punjabi entertainment industry. Fans of all these stars are lauding their efforts too.
