With just a few days left for the release of the much-awaited Punjabi movie, Manje Bistre 2, Punjabis across the globe are seen to be rejoicing over the musical melodies of the movie. The sequel of family drama romantic movie, Manje Bistre (2017), the movie “celebrates the rich culture and heritage of Punjab along with a tinge of comedy in the backdrop of a normal Punjabi family in Canada,” shares Gippy Grewa exclusively to iampunjaabi.com.
Speaking about the inspiration behind Manje Bistre 2, Gippy shares, “I have also noticed this thing in abroad that Punjabis are staying true to our rich culture & heritage whole-heartedly. However, the sheen seems to be lost in our mother land. This revelation came to me when I attended a marriage in America, wherein they did jaago in truck which inspired me to think that why don’t we do a similar kind of a thing for collecting manje bistre and that is how Manje Bistre 2 happened in Canada.”

Shooting the movie in Canada was not really a bed of roses because “the things that we wanted to show on the silver screen were not practically possible like trucks carrying manje bistre,” informs Gippy.
“There were certain locations in Canada which didn’t allow tractors on the roads which came as a major challenge because we were supposed to take permission from the concerned authority. When we tried to seek permission, they allotted us certain particular roads but it wasn’t matching our requirements. Moreover, we really wanted to shoot a scene in Thompson Street, Vancouver but we couldn’t get permission and they warned that if we would try shooting there, they will take our cameras. So, on our last day, I along with Karamjit Anmol decided to take the plunge and do our shoot there. To our awe, many foreigners gathered at the venue and started dancing with us during the shoot and fortunately, even the concerned authorities approved for the same,” he adds.
Directed by Baljit Singh Deo, Manje Bistre 2 is all set to release on April 12, 2019. The movie also stars Simi Chahal, Gurpreet Ghuggi, Karamjit Anmol, BN Sharma, Sardar Sohi, and Hobby Dhaliwal in pivotal roles. It is being distributed worldwide by White Hill Studios.
